Great point about Gaudreau by Dirty12. Goalies take time. Mitchell Weeks is just one example. Look at Divecentis. Didn’t play in his 16 year old year due to Covid but was slated to play in U18, following year was backing up and now he’s a strong starter. But it took 3 years. Gaulton is following a similar pattern, and to an extent Krawchuk as well, having played U18 then backing up (arguably) this year. This goalie draft class is not nearly as deep as the 2022 class, so this youngster is coveted. He is very good, but he will still need time. Gabriel D’Aigle is this best of last years goalies in the country and was still the backup in the Q. So do you trade Gaulton or Krawchuk for less than market value for a kid who will backup? That doesn’t advance the team. Drafting to flip makes more sense.

From what I have read, a goalie of Jack’s calibre comes around once every 10 years. If available at 9 can you be at fault for taking the best player at his position?
I agree with Dirty! You can't say you have two capable goalies for the next 3+ seasons and say let's draft another one 9th overall when there's only one net. You need two good goalies and if we feel like we have that you can't reach here. Take a flyer on a mid-round goalie for depth.

I believe this goes beyond having depth at the position. Where do you start Ivankovic next year? Where does Gaulton play? How about Chucky! I'm all for internal competition but this goes beyond that. I think this would be bad asset management. If we would have two 19 year old tendies I would feel differently.

I don’t disagree with your positions; however, it wasn’t four months ago everyone on here was in crisis mode about our goaltending situation. We may have a rare opportunity here to get someone special (Jack) and let the chips fall where they may. By drafting Ivankovic, it doesn’t mean we can trade for a 19 year old starter or secure a #1 thru Euro draft. Depth is good, great young goalies are Rare. So much so, Jack may not be available at #9 and this is a moot point….it needs to be considered. That’s all.

If the Wolves are serious about making a run they need to draft a player that they can deal at the deadline aka Mortone, VanVolson. Judging by the deals made by the Wolves to stockpile picks for drafts after this year signals that they are positioning themselves to making deals to bloster the lineup to make a run. Taking a young goalie defeats the purpose when you already have two. Unless of course a deal is already in the works for the Wolves to deal with NorthBay for Nelson, DiVincientis. Wolves maybe taking the goalie and sending him to the Bay come January. I just don't know if you can deal 1st round pick goalies. Never been done before. I still think its far fetched.

Looking at what the wolves do at the draft tomorrow will be very telling to what is in store for this season.

uzzled why Musty is not with team USA at world under 18s any thoughts?

Historically they tend to hold grudges against players who don't go the NCAA/National Team route. Especially at the U17/U18 level.

Agreed it could be a great opportunity, but the subsequent moves required in order to justify this is concerning. Taking a goalie 43rd in what was considered a deep draft class at the position can't be ignored. Some fans thought they should have picked one with the earlier pick, but Walton was too polarizing to pass up. Word has it Ivankovic is at or above Gaudreau a few years ago. BPA should always take priority but they need to be careful here. Maybe that shouldn't matter. You had Gaulton and Krawchuck commit to us. You bring in Ivankovic and this could stir the pot. Taking him at 9 is not a depth move. It's you're the guy move.

I'd be slightly puzzled if they took him. It is totally possible that this pick is destined to be traded for a push for a run this year and next anyway. So the pick might be to take the most appealing tradable prospect.

Also, don’t forget Gaulton is gonna need some time/games next season due to hardly playing as a result of surgery. So tender is needed regardless IMO. Maybe that comes somewhere other than the draft?

How did Carey Terrance (Erie) make the team then?

Both Terrance and Musty were on the USA U18 team at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup last year. Musty led the team in points.

Something more behind the scenes here with Musty not being on the team. Could be a number of different things. An injury, declined the invite, politics etc.

Can’t understand why some posters believe we have to trade our first rounder at the deadline to get something big in return. We will not be the only team going all in and don’t forget these players have no trade clauses.Could send the wrong message to future first rounders.

Because the current roster has many holes to fill
and we still don’t have enough picks to acquire everything they need to fill those holes. At some point this organization needs to go all in. And dealing your first rounder should not be out of the question. That won’t send a negative message at all. If anything the Wolves would do that player a favour by sending him to a team where he can get a ton of icetime. He surely wouldn’t get it on a team looking to go deep into a playoffs. Just my opinion.

100% agree! Call the GM in Windsor, Sarnia, Kitchener and Peterborough and ask if they would do it again. I think they would like their 06’s back!

I think not. Windsor moved ‘05s, not an ‘06. Sarnia would 100% do it all over again I think. Kitchener did not have an ’06 to move, retained their ‘05-1st, and have a fairly loaded draft of ‘07s with 2-1sts, 2, 3, 4. The Petes should get an ‘07-1st and accumulate a lot of picks in an all-in sell next season

Was Zelidsky an 06?

For reference, the 06s moved at the deadline were Porter Martone and Jack Van Volsen. High end 05s included Miedema, MacDonell, Nick Lardis.
However remember Sarnia got DelMastro and Delbuz for Martone MacDonell, Lardis for Beck. The Petes will deal Beck and get a boatload back next year.

Wolves need to get the right over age players in place early and secure two solid imports by August. Dvorksy and Chormiak but I think we need to move a dman. Will it be Toure? Will it be Mania? Will it be Collins? Will it be Chromiak. Too many right handed back end guys. We only have Anania on the left side. Then you have a crop of young guys Protz, Walton, Bruce and still Bishop. Wassink, Huynh, Sequin, and Larkin for unsigned drafted guys with some promise.

And 2022 pick #15 Testa by London to Hamilton
Anyway, if the path to Mem. Cup is in sight I’m not saying we don’t move tomorrow’s pick but it would have to be under exceptional circumstances. Furthermore, we might be able to accomplish our goal of a go for it Team another way.
Lastly, if Devorsky reports that saves draft capital we can use elsewhere. No?
Time will tell, I just don’t like the blank statement that our first 07 pick is an auto trade at deadline…enough said. Just bring us a supper Star tomorrow please.
