To me if wolves are taking a serious run, you need to upgrade McCallum and Konyen, at least. That lineup you put forth(good work) won't cut it, if we look at other teams upgrades this past season. You got to empty the cupboard. ImoYeah those moves are good for long term outlook, more ammo is better with the number of returning bodies, next season is already looking like:
Musty - Delic - Goyette
(Dvorsky/Import/x) - McCallum - Konyen
Walton - Villeneuve - Pharand
Yearwood - (2nd rounder/Prospect/x) - Coughlan
(Prospect/x)
Anania - Collins
(Import/x)- Mania
Toure - Chromiak
(Protz/Bruce/Walton/2nd rounder/x)
Krawchuk --> i think he'll be very good for Sudbury next year, totally comfortable with him as 1G
(Ivankovic/Gaulton/x)
x = potential trade
Very strong lineup. Gs look really solid if you trust Krawchuk like I do, top 6 is only really lacking 1 more impact player, should be fillable through import draft or Dvorsky. L3 is huge and nasty to play against, I think they'll make a major impact, and L4 is guys who looked great after coming over, who will be vets, may make a big impact and shift L3 down. Right side of the blueline is really good, with what should be 2 NHL drafted D, and a top prospect for the NHL draft. Wolves most glaring hole at the moment is one more top 4 dman, preferably who is very sound on the defensive side of the puck, and a left shot. I think they fill that through the import draft if they don't get an F there, but if they don't, they should be able to fill it through a trade. Also potential for a young guy to step up. I feel great about this framework for a lineup with the trade ammo they have.
May get more picks trying to trade Larmand/Boudreau. Could also deal Toure and keep Larmand, but i think Toure is probably more valuable, though the Wolves already have an excess of RD.
I definitely think pushing them each down one line is optimal, but its not a bad place to start to the year. Probably should have clarified that. With that said, the 67s only had 3 guys play the majority of the season and post > pt/gp this year. Musty/Goyette are locks for that, as should be the import. McCallum would've been 3rd on the 67s in scoring, I'm very comfortable with that in our T6 as I think he should post > 1 pt/gp next year. Konyen would've been 7th with 45 in 68, and next year I'd guess he's closer to 60 in 68, which would be top 6 in production on every team, so I don't think he's a bad piece to have either. I think we kind of take the offense game of those two for granted because of Musty/Goyette, and the likes of Sokolov/Byfield we've seen in the past. They're adequate contributors for a contender as D+2 and OA players. Ideally, at least one, if not both, are playing L3 by the end of the trade deadline. To me if wolves are taking a serious run, you need to upgrade McCallum and Konyen, at least. I hear you. I would add two top scoring vets and mix them in the 1st and second line and who can run a PP The D needs a good puck control guy for the PP as well. Im not trusting certain players growth to put them into winning or near top of the east.I definitely think pushing them each down one line is optimal, but its not a bad place to start to the year. Again, where Devorsky plays next season has a massive impact on our future moves..

Load up all you can.
Def a need. He has some serious shopping to fulfill.A legit PP Quarterback must be high on the list for Paps. Hard to find without drafting and developing one. Maybe through the Import draft they find one, or go the trade route (Nelson)
No Nelson please!A legit PP Quarterback must be high on the list for Paps. Hard to find without drafting and developing one. Maybe through the Import draft they find one, or go the trade route (Nelson)

Two year players also cost ridiculous amounts. Look at how much we got for a pretty mediocre Chase Stillman? Owen Beck who is very good, but I'd argue not a gamechanger went for Van Volsen + 2 2nds + 3rd + more. When buying at the deadline we have seen two options: Rentals vs 2 yr players. If we are to empty the draft cupboard then the 2 year player would be ideal/preferred. Knowing we have a strong base for next two years….most likely Paps will make some combination of both trades. Time will tell. Again, where Devorsky plays next season has a massive impact on our future moves..

Completly agree!Getting another 2nd is a huge trade chip for us. What good are those 3rd 23 picks for us next season? The player you draft with those 3rd 23 picks you wouldn't be able to trade next season anyways.

I think Mania and Chromiak will both show themselves to be real QB options next year.
one of the best offensive D Man in the O, we need a Punnet stay at home/clear the crease style D. IMOWhy not? One of the best Dmen in the league next season hands down
The Pete’s will recoup a ton for Beck this upcoming deadline so that is why you do two year players. Pay a lot to get Beck, go on a run and something decent back when you sell….Watch what the Zpetes get back for

Punnet or Mayer would give the wolves a legit top pairing LD that is big, and physical and can play very well all situations.Watch what the Zpetes get back for

I agree with this as well. I don't think we take a goalie with the first pick. We need a guy that will have value to be dealt at the deadline. If you're comfortable with Krawchuck as number 1 why would you draft Ivankovic?
05, 3 years of eligibility left and you drafted Gaulton in 2nd round last year with 4, and should be more then capable in backing him up this year.
This would be bad asset management in my opinion if you pick two goalies in top 2 rounds in two consecutive drafts yet still have your #1 starter in place on top of that. Gaulton needs a hard look or you would have to trade him for pennies on the dollar and focus your development efforts on Ivankovic whom you just drafted. He isn't reporting to play in Espo.
Now if you aren't sold on Chucky then maybe, but if you're that confident in him you can't pick G 9th overall.
From what I have read, a goalie of Jack’s calibre comes around once every 10 years. If available at 9 can you be at fault for taking the best player at his position? If you're comfortable with Krawchuck as number 1 why would you draft Ivankovic?

Four years ago scouts believed Goudreau was easily best in a decade, some thought more, one had never seen the likes of Gaudreau in his 25+ years of scouting. Selected #7 turned out ok, he is a very solid starter for a contender at 19.From what I have read, a goalie of Jack’s calibre comes around once every 10 years. If the Wolves are serious about making a run they need to draft a player that they can deal at the deadline aka Mortone, VanVolson. Judging by the deals made by the Wolves to stockpile picks for drafts after this year signals that they are positioning themselves to making deals to bloster the lineup to make a run. Taking a young goalie defeats the purpose when you already have two. Unless of course a deal is already in the works for the Wolves to deal with NorthBay for Nelson, DiVincientis. Wolves maybe taking the goalie and sending him to the Bay come January. I just don't know if you can deal 1st round pick goalies. Never been done before. I still think its far fetched. From what I have read, a goalie of Jack’s calibre comes around once every 10 years. If available at 9 can you be at fault for taking the best player at his position?
