Missed the game. Saw Skinner's breakaway stop on Gaudreau which looked like a real confident tender staring down. So great to see this guy step up and lead a win in what sounds like a sleepy home team.

Love that Kane scored and got an assist. Might help keep some of the flies off this warrior player who some fans seem to think should be moved. Will be fun to watch this team when Perry joins the team and adds more greasy, abrasive support. I like Knoblauch's bench management and sounds like he tinkered to jump start them in the third. Beauty of centre/ wing versatility is that he can move Nugent Hopkins around to step into 2C and turn Draisaitl into a McWinger finisher.

I saw Chicago in Van on Monday. It was 2-0 early but I was impressed by their AHL team work ethic under Luke Richardson. Likely to be swamped by the Oil, however, they are a team that works despite essentially zero NHL finishing ability.

I don't really think Woodcroft/Manson knew what they were doing defensively at all for a long time.

It was just covered up for a while last year with a scorching hot PP + "well we allow goals against, but it's Campbell's fault!" logic.

The truth is I think whatever defensive structure Woodcroft had went down the toilet in the BOA series, but they ended up winning, but really since then they just played basically pure run n' gun hockey from that point on.
Yup. Can't win with run and gun hockey. Team's that win the cup have great defensive structure and depth and the ability to win those close games. ie play to win not play to lose. EDM has turned into that type of team. It feels like it's coming together and it is most definitely not a fluke. As long as the goaltending holds up this team has a real shot.

Plot twist:

That former head coach was Jay Woodcroft. ;)

Went to sleep after arriving at destination near midnight local time tied 1-1 and that the Flames were winning 3-1. Just woke up to take a leak and check the score and see that we won 4-1 and the Flames lost 4-3 in regulation.

Now I can’t get back to sleep!

Wasn't he supposed to sign with NJ and then they backed out at the last moment and then there wasn't anyone left but CBJ that had cap space for him?
I am not 100% sure actually. I do know that he told the Flames he was leaving at the last minute and I think their owner even told him off over the phone lolll.

He was so good in CGY and now he is a player not even worth talking about. A very skilled player who showed what he can do under Sutter. He is just making his $$ and going about his ways quietly.

He is barely worth even picking up in a hockey pool these days

I don't care if you're a rookie or not. If he's not lights out game 1 of the playoffs, I have no problems pinning his ass to the bench and going with someone else (which should have happened last playoffs if Woodcroft wasn't a freaking moron).

We're in a window where the results in the playoffs is essentially all that matters, it doesn't matter what your experience level is. I'm fine with keeping him, but you better have someone else here who can plausibly be a playoff starter if he does the same thing again this playoffs.

And there's nothing unreasonable with that opinion at all.
I think almost everybody agreed that we need somebody that can play with him? We can't just go in with Pickard

Francouz it is! Let’s get him! He did after all step in when Kuemper shat the bed.

Obviously that can't be allowed to happen.

If you got Cale Makar back there (and Toews too) ... sure? Only need a generational D man.

Not sure why people keep wanting to bang that drum when they know it's a disingenuous point.

Oh yeh it only worked cause of Makar. Dumb. And what about Hill stepping in out of nowhere? knights have Makar too?

And what about the Oilers? Is the best team defence league wide and Nurse, Ekholm, Bouch nothing?

I think Hill is actually a decent goalie. He had good numbers relative to the teams he was on (Arizona and San Jose who were trying to lose on purpose basically). I think that's just their pro scouting hitting pay dirt yet with another diamond in the rough.

Because Brossoit played behind the same D in game 1/2 and he looked like shit, so what magical D did Vegas discover in game 3 onwards?

I'm just looking at the out of town scoreboard tonight too and saw that Hill saved 40/42 shots to lead Vegas to a win his first game back from injury. If this is some kind of lucky streak he's on, then I've never seen anything like it and I've watched the sport for decades.

Makar is a generational D-Man, he's not even a "good no.1 D". And then they had even Toews behind him who would be a no.1 on a lot of teams.

And then on top of all that they got extremely lucky getting MacKinnon locked in a 6 million when he should have been making 11+ million.

Of course he is. He won a f***in cup. That’s not the point, the point is no one knew. If you were Soundwave the Knights fan you’d have been asking McCrimmon to go get a real goalie blah blah blah over the unknown quantity in Hill. You don’t know Jack, so stop pretending you know.

I really still don't understand why anyone would trade Soup for Elvis.

Skinner is our starter. We don't need to pay our backup 5M. Just dump the guy or buy him out. Paying 5M for a backup position makes 0 sense. Negative sense if the Oilers have to add to Campbell to get Elvis.
Skinner could get hurt in the last game of the season. We need a 1B, even if they never touch the ice in the playoffs. Have to get someone.
