Some NHL "codes" makes no sense. This is an actual thing the NHL cap sheet allows. Like why not use it.

Players need to want to sign them, the offersheeting team needs to overpay in cap and give up assets, and the team with the players needs to be in a spot where they might not actually be able to match. Most players worth offersheeting won't make it to the point where they can sign an offersheet.

I'm intrigued by the potential of adding Holloway to our team, but he isn't "easily" replacing any of those players. Neighours and Saad had more goals last year than Holloway has career points....

"Easily" in context meant there could easily be a scenario in which he would replace any of those three players. Neighbours could very easily struggle with scoring goals early and lose confidence and find himself down the lineup. Bolduc hasn't really proven anything at the NHL level, and Saad is an aging complimentary player. Should any of these things happen while Holloway succeeds, he could easily find his way into the mix there. It's not a particularly strong or established 2nd line.

I still think it's weird how Armstrong has been an almost perfect GM, yet he insisted on slamming their window of contention shut by doing everything in his power to dump Pietrangelo. That'll always be a black mark on an otherwise great tenure

His entire handling of the defense since 2019 has been an issue, a long with betting long term on the wrong players.

Because their feelings are hurt lol. I don't believe a single one of them who said they wouldn't have signed to try and win a cup. The only way that makes sense is if they are already multi-millionaires and even then I think it is iffy.

Oilers have Arvidsson and Henrique signed for 7M. I could see why Holloway and Broberg might decide to get paid closer to what they are worth at this stage of their career.

Wait, if one player vastly outperforms what would be a reasonable expectation of them while a player higher (and better) than them in the lineup simultaneously has their effectiveness decline precipitously, they might be able to take their spot? Shocker.

Perunovich could finally have a breakout year and supplant Leddy as the #1 LHD if he takes a massive leap forward and Leddy regresses due to age. It'd be pretty foolish to bet on that or even try to convince yourself that it's likely.

Broberg was an 8th defenseman most of the season playing in the AHL was he good in the playoffs yes he was but he also had fresh legs against battle-fatigued teams is he worth 4.6 million nope. The Oilers can use that 2nd at the trade deadline for a much better dman for a playoff run, cut ties. Holloway is ready to break out that could be a bargain contract, that one will be matched

To add at the deadline they would need cap space.

I would expect that there are plenty of times that teams have tried to get a player to sign an offer sheet, but the player just used that as leverage for a better deal with the team that owns his rights as an RFA. In those cases the O/S is irrelevant, and it would be foolish for a team to announced that they had tried to get a player to sign an offer sheet but he declined.
