Confirmed Signing with Link: [STL] Blues re-sign Jaden Schwartz [5 years, $5.35M AAV]

Does this buy out only one UFA year? If so, that's a bit... meh. But I guess the money is more than on point here. Congrats Blues fans.

It buys two. I thought the Blues would be going for 7 years with this guy, but I guess the money would have probably gone over 6 million had they done that. Schwartz now gets to be a UFA while still under 30, which means he'll probably get another big pay day after this deal.

Great salary, I'd have loved to have gotten more term if I was St.Louis but hard to complain overall.

Becuase its only 5 years.........

Sign a guy to a 5 year contract, terrible term, he'll walk at the end of it and you'll be kicking yourself for not signing him longer.

Sign a guy to a 7 year contract, terrible term, he'll be old, injured and that contract is gonna look like an albatross when it ends.

Just can't win.

Must be a pretty good scoop, don't see it on Blues website or STL today. Anyone else reporting this besides Walker?

Oddly nobody yet. Though to be fair, the main Blues beat writer was doing a chat. Also, in fairness, EVERYONE (McKenzie, Friedman, Dreger, LeBrun, Mirtle) are on vacation right now.

Given the age of Schwartz a 7/8 year deal would be fine.

The obvious answer here seems to be to sign him for 6 years, no? :)
