Marner has way more limited touches on the McDavid line and he's making nice little small area plays in a support role. He can use his creativity and deception but he's not driving the play.

Feels like that's the kind of damage he could make beside a superstar that's really going, and not when he and Matthews get stale and lazy together.

I hope Marner learns a lot playing with these guys

Matthews too, on his end

Hopefully Matthews, Marner and Nylander all see other superstars up close and realize where the gap is and what they have to do. They have nothing on the intensity, assertiveness, precision, pace of some of the Canadian stars to open the game.

Him trying to finish checks is comical. He looks lost out there IMO.

Agreed. I think it was Ek he tried to take the puck from on the boards and it looked like this.

Such fast hockey, fun to watch.
Marner seems like a perfect fit for McDavid, really strong period for that line.

Marner after one period:

Leads all forwards on either team in icetime.
Shots 3-0 with him on the ice.
Scoring Chances 5-0 with him on the ice.
High Danger chances 3-0 with him on the ice.
And yet this is still a pointless and completely un-entertaining concept. Personally, I blame Marner.

Stats aren’t needed, you can see he’s playing really well.

Yea, the whole team has really, the backchecking support and then counterattack completely destroyed the Swedes. They looked dazed and confused until Canada themselves dialed it back a gear after the 2nd goal.

With 3 weak shots from distance, that may have been one of the worst periods Ive ever seen a Sweden team play. They had that one good chance on a bad double pinch by the Canad D but didnt even get a shot on it.

Fell once and tried to jump into another Swede's arms. But he's trying. You don't need two puck transporters on the same line. Marner would be better driving his own line IMO. Must be tough playing his game with 97.
