Pens have a boat load of high quality defense prospects and Buffalo had a thing for Bennett in his draft year. It would suck to see Poms lighting up the Sabres when they meet, but they could seriously jump-start a rebuild dealing him.

when do we get an indication that they are going down this path? it's the last bullet point on my agenda

Whoa....

You're the one who said he's done well "as of late"

And then talk about Drafting Vanek and trading for Drury and Briere.

That isn't as of late.

Like I asked someone else .... What legitimate top line players has he added via trade or draft in the last 7 years.... I would consider that "as Of late"

And I don't care what guys "were" like Rivet.

Part of running a team is foresight.

It's like giving Regier a pass because guys don't give effort. That's part of the equation when acquiring them.

Read your own posts. I responded to what you said.

Quick question: off the top of your head, name first line players under 25. If you're looking for Darcy to have drafted a first liner over the pat 7 years, that's the level I player he'd have to be. In terms of trade/fa, how many elite players move teams per year? One? Two? How is he going to outbid teams under golisano? And under pegula, who has he missed out on? Carter/Richards/Nash/Parise? Unrealistic expectations.

And, to be clear, why are teams going to trade great players at their peak? Big names are traded when they're beginning to decline.

And in terms of foresight, there's this thing called the draft, in which Darcy has done well over the past 4 years with Myers/Ennis/Adam/Ennis/kassian/mcnabb/Pysyk/foligno/McCabe/grigs/girgs/armia.

C - Ott
A - Ehrhoff
A - Vanek

Done and done, said it before

Don't give anyone a C.

Go with 3 A's. Change them from game to game based on who earns it in the last game...nobody is gifted anything.

So take the three players most deserving from today's game and slap the A on them. So slap the A on Kaleta, Ott, and Stafford (yes Stafford, he was one of the best forwards today, which says more about the rest of our guys than anything else). Then next game if someone steps up, they get the A. Rotate the A's on a game-by-game basis until someone steps up and decides this is their team and they're gonna take charge.

Pommer wants a letter? Play like you deserve one. Same with any of the other slackers on this roster.

You will not find a bigger Pominville fan than me, you can go back to when he was a prospect for that. But the guy is supposed to be the captain of the team and the team has too many of his bad qualities and not enough of his good qualities.

Soft, lacking any emotion out there and lacking and 2nd gear to push the team when needed. That sounds like the Buffalo Sabres because it is the Buffalo Sabres and he is our captain. If he's not captain next year then fine, keep him. But the team isn't going to change with him as a central leadership figure.

And what does this have to do with my post? I wasnt arguing about him as a captain.

We're done.

You said Adam. Using a guy as a representative of drafting well that will never make an NhL team is a losing proposition.

And what could we possible get that's worth trading him to?

A center? No

A shutdown dman? No

Why? Because they need those players for a a up run.
You understand how rebuilds work right?

We are looking for a blue chip prospect, a 1st round pick, and a roster player that can play now and possibly next year. The roster player could be someone like Tanner Glass for all I care.

I'm talking about a full rebuild here. Lottery pick this and NEXT year. I'm not talking about trading Pominville for Brooks Orpik and Brandon Sutter because that's what we need right now. I'm talking about trading him for a great prospect and a great pick. We don't need to add a center and a shutdown defensemen right now to "hopefully" make the playoffs next year.

If you haven't noticed next year should be out of the question. This is a 3-4 year project.

It's beginning to look like that's the best, and maybe only option. Vanek and Miller are the keepers, and he's our only chess piece left. I think we may be undervaluing him a bit. I'd compare him to maybe a younger Langenbrunner to a legit contender.

Also, the Avs may value ROR a lot, but his value is also dependent on their leverage, which we may be overvaluing. This kid is gonna sit the whole year out.

We're done because you don't have a leg to tabs on. He made the Canadian WJC team and contributed at a respectable level. That's a pretty decent 2nd round pick in any year.

Show of hands.

Who cares what Luke Adam did on the WJC team?

Olli Maatta would be a pretty solid piece to get

Pommer + Adam for Maatta, Bennett, Jeffrey, and 2nd?

(Adam for Jeffrey is one that has been very well received on the trade board by both sides...get both underperforming players new scenery and hope something comes out of it).

Get some nice pieces for the future. Bennett IMO is the biggest piece, since we definitely could use more talent on the wings in our prospect pool.

+I thought they had a lot of jump in their game while it was 0-0, and looked good for a lot of the 1st and 2nd
+Miller kept them in it to start the 2nd when he put the pin back in a Myers hand grenade
+I thought Ennis had a decent game
+Nabokov was flat out awesome. With the way that they started out, if the Sabres had gotten anything by him in the 1st or 2nd they could have gotten enough momentum to get something going. Standing tall gave his team the opportunity to put themselves within a win of 8th and 4pts from Buffalo

-Why is Grigs in still in the league (let alone the line up) if he's so far from ready?
-The teams stones shrank early in the third and continued to shrivel as the Isles lead grew
-Tavares after he took the tripping call. He just bailed on the team to chirp at the ref and then goes off on line change at a snails pace. the kid is a beast, but that kind of crap irritates me.

Olli Maatta + pick 20-30 + Tanner Glass is a Mike Richards return? Uhhhh.... Brayden Schenn was the #1 rated prospect by almost every publication when that trade happened.

I'm going to bed.

Bottom line is that if a team hasn't won a playoff series in 6 years, and is currently in last place and about to miss the playoffs again the GM isn't doing his job, even if he scored Luke Adam

Expectation and valuation of elite (full stop) top line wingers and elite defensive centers are significantly different.

You're also being kind about him being defensive only.

Pommers should go west anyways. It limits our options, but you can't have our former captain coming in here having a party every game. That's embarrassing, and not good for keeping our young guys here.

:raises hand:

At the time it was a good pick.

I think he means now. Like in his current value, and which GM's will point to that as a chip.
