He told the truth.

The Sabres had a handful of glorious chances but Nabakov stoned them.

You just got embarrassed and you're saying "we had chances"? Sorry, but he'd be gone tomorrow if it was up to me. Leino is right, there's no fire or passion on this team outside of a select few. Gerbe went on to say that he felt that the team is moving in the right direction. I don't see how any sane person can say that.

I know we're in the GBU but I gotta ask....

Are any of these guys franchise players? I.e.; Crosby or Toews or Tavares caliber? Or more like Pierre Turgeon.......? (Seriously, I know nothing about any of them......)

And whomever we get, will he have a supporting cast or be a lone wolf?

Grigs isn't ready to go year one so why would any of these guys be?

By 2016?

I think those 3 are franchise players and will get picked 1-3. Grigorenko was the 12th overall pick, and was picked that late for a reason. Have you seen Alex G play this year or Yaks? They are incredible players with explosive speed and play making ability, something Grigorenko simply does not have yet, he needed another year in junior more than anything and is a complete failure of management and use of resources in wasting a year on ELC. I've watched quite a bit of those top 3 picks this year, but JFB would probably still have more insight as well as the rest of the draft.

Winning trades means nothing. Winning a trade for Boyes who lindy didn't wanna use, or for Bernier, or Torres, etc....

Those are meaningless.

Who has he drafted in the last 6 years that is a legitimate proven top line talent or top pair d man?

Last 6 years would mean that whoever he has drafted at the oldest is 24 years old...not really fair of what you're asking.

Yes the top 3 are franchise players. MacKinnion and Jones are exactly what this team needs for different positions.

2014 has two potential franchise defensemen and looks to be very deep.

And 2015 has Connor McDavid who is the next "it" player. He will at the very least be one of the top 5 players in the NHL in a few years.

If ever there is a time to rebuild this is it. This is why I want to get a new GM in here that isn't just trying to save his job. There is no quick fix for this team, they need a complete rework.

Trade everybody. Seriously, Vanek, Pominville, Miller, Myers, everybody.

Keep 'Hoff, Sekera and Ott.

Trade our best scorer , captain, young dman and #1 goalie but keep Sekera? Sekera is nothing special. Overrated #4/5 dman with zero offensive skills and has been a sieve defensively all year. If any other team wants to overpay I'd gladly trade Sekera.

He has done a pretty good job in terms of winning the majority of his trades and drafting well but he just gets random pieces and can't put the puzzle together

I think it was Doak who said in chat: They need to get Burke for direction and leave Regier for asset management. Burke knows the kind of roster that you need to win, but is horrible at trades and not much better at drafting. Regier is pretty much the exact opposite. Put them together and they'd be unstoppable.

I see what you're saying...

But the argument is that Darcy has "drafted well" lately

You'ed think that if he's drafted well there would be something to show for it the last 6 years.

How about 7? 8?

It's been a decade since Regier has drafted a legit first line player, an Vanek was a no-brainer at that pick

i just heard the new coach's press conference and it did not make me feel any better at all. Still picking out tiny little stints of good play and mentioning them in the press conference like it mattered at all. If anyone is listening to WGR550 right now, a guy named Steve just called in and screamed about how mad he is at this team, and was just sdo mad about what is happeneing, and mright after, Rolston came on and had no emotion whatsoever and did act like any of this was a big deal

The Ray bashers must have been happy tonight.

He was pretty critical of the team tonight.

Maybe he read the "Fire Ray" thread here!

Well said

He is pathetic
He's been terrible this year and most of his career honestly but he was by far the best Sabre on the ice tonight.

If anyone is pathetic right now it is Pomminville. The team had a chance to turn the season around/gain momentum after the Boston game and Pomminville took his annual 5-10 game nap.

You claim he drafts well and makes good trades.

Show me the evidence of that.

This team has a severe lack of heart, talent and consistency.

For 6 years.

Top of my head

Miller
Ballard
Hejda
Poms
Roy
Paille
CMac
Kassian
Ennis
Stafford
Foligno
Myers
Vanek
Gaustad
Armia
Grigs
McCabe
Sekera

Trades:

Hodgson
Regehr
Ehrhoff
Briere
Drury
Moore
Rivet
Boyer
Lydman
Grier
Draft trades

Without the benefit of wiki, which could supply more, I'd say that's a pretty decent assortment of talent

I think it's time to consider the possibility that Ruff had this team over achieving! I think we all under-estimated him.

Ok, I'm being sarcastic. Mostly.

I actually like the idea of burke as assistant GM to Regier but I doubt he would come here

Regardless, they DID have chances. many of them and they have to find a way to bury them. There are many reasons to not like Gerbe but telling the truth shouldn't be one of them.
