Thanks guys, happy to provide some info on Solberg. Not sure how much I've told you about myself, but I've been part of the Norwegian hockey community for many years, so I'm closer to the players than most fans.

So today Färjestad played their last CHL game in a while, won 6-4. Solberg played 22 minutes, most on the team. Good to see that coaches have plenty of faith in him already.

Their last two CHL games will be played in mid October. The SHL starts next Saturday.

I don't know what that is, so I tried to look it up. It suggested that maybe I meant "keeble" or "glory hole". What the hell?
guess it depends how long you’ve been on the forums…. But when Sami vatanen was a prospect we got a few wild Finnish fans in here.

Prob like 2009-2010 time frame

the Finnish fans, and the youth movement fans slightly after that…. Were entertaining(and annoying) at the same time

But keerole, is just key role

They were entertaining and out of control at the same time! Kind of fun actually lol.

Time for a real update on Solberg. He's doing very well, on 2nd pairing with 15-17 mins a game. They played again today, won 4-1. Solberg leads the team in hits, no surprise there.

He's obviously been a booster for the team, not only on the ice. A teammate recently said: "When Solberg arrived, our locker room went from a funeral to a beach party. His humor and energy has a positive effect on all of us, and I think it helps us play even better".

Solberg also gets a lot of media attention, I'll include this fresh video so you can see he's alive and well. Some locker room stuff and then an interview, I'll translate it for you guys...

Media: How was your SHL debut?
Solberg: I thought it was good, with some hits and some nice passing.

Media: You like playing a physical game?
Solberg: Yes, it's fun.

Media: How would you describe the perfect hit?
Solberg: Perfect hit...hmm maybe an open ice hit of some sort. There are many variations, I don't think there's just one answer. You just have to go for it and hope for the best.

Media: Who is your role model?
Solberg: Ole-Kristian Tollefsen. He's also Norwegian, and he was a very physical player when he played for Färjestad and in the NHL.

He'd better learn to fight before he gets to the NHL.
You don't have to worry about that, I've seen him fight a few times, and he certainly knows how it's done. I think he's prepared for this when he plays like he does.

A reporter actually asked him a while ago how he can play such a physical game but with little retaliation. Solberg: "They think they're tough verbally, but when I ask if they want to drop the gloves they decline and back off. That's not my problem".

He definitely can't come over soon enough. I love the thought of having one of Gudas/Solberg on the ice 80% of the time, because when used properly and to their advantages (which won't happen under Cronin), they should instill quite a lot of fear into opposing forwards.

My hope for Solberg this year was that he would continue to round out his 200 foot game. My fear is that he is going to rely too much on his physical presence to the detriment of being better positionally on defense and improving his transition and offensive zone skills. Any reports you can provide going forward in the development of those areas is appreciated. His progress in those areas will be the difference between being a top 4D versus a bottom pairing D.

Was he born in the 70s and held in a time capsule until now? What a throwback.

I have similar reservations. Hopefully he's being coached effectively on when to make the hit and when not to do it.

Sure...btw the SHL is paused for a couple of weeks because some players will join national teams and also the CHL on Nov 12 where Solberg could play. Clara has joined team Italy.

Sounds to me like they're happy with Solberg's game, but they don't want him to play heavy minutes at this point because he's not even 19 yet. I posted what the coach said about him, #679 in the prospect thread.

His stats with Färjestad, played 13 of 16 games:
3 assists, PIM: 6, SOG: 11, Hits: 21, -2, TOI/GP: 14:42.

I guess that's why Verbeek just had to get "the most violent man in the draft" ;)
