The fact that Tampa is uninterested in doing anything like that, has got to be a kick in the teeth to your captain that has given everything he has to your team.
I'm curious how it's being taken in the room? Maybe it's nothing, but the perfection does not leave the lightning in good light.

You look at how proactive some teams are at moving out cap, to either retain their players or try to make their team better.

he would look so odd in black and gold but I’d take him on the B’s in a heartbeat.

they did the opposite, they brought back McDonagh adding cap while saying they had enough for Stammer...

Anaheim has a boatload of cap space, a roster full of youth, is looking to take the next step and make the playoffs....

Didn't Tampa and Stamkos do the same thing last time? Let him see the market and he came back after fielding offers. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same thing. Seems like a guy who will retire wearing one jersey.

This isn't the same thing, Stamkos wanted to test the market then. Our GM positioned out us of being able to retain him this time.

Take 3m for a team that disrespected you on the way out, or get wined and dined for easily 2x as much? Easy answer

Completely disagree
It would allow him to not have to move his family, play on a competitive team, finish his career in Tampa and maybe facilitate a role off the ice with the team post hockey career.

All depends if he really wants to stay in Tampa after his career

Sure. Hes also the most important player in franchise history who has been nothing but the perfect captain and player and the GM could move out money to pay him what hes worth but instead your asking Stamkos to take less.

It just seems like Tampa is ready to move on before the play falls off which is fine but hopefully they arent just lowballing him to push him out.

He will be able to do anything he wants post career with Tampa he doesnt need to take less to do that.

Look at Bergeron as a comparable, he took team friendly contracts at the end
