Marner hiding behind the ref from tkachuk while mccabe fighting for his life was actually so bad it was funny. He looked terrified being in that scrum and then looks like he asks for a penalty as the game is over. Glad he scored but the guy needs to understand he will never be playoff hockey player if he cant get over the fear of physically pushing back with the rest of his teammates. Its not fair to the rest of the team
That's not fair. Nobody knows Tkachuk better than Marner. It wasn't fear, Tkachuk trying to goad him or one of his teammates into something stupid. Marner took a few, then laughed at him. Mitch does enough on this team, fighting isn't his job. Mitch knows Tkachuk from day to Knight. Someone on this team needs to CRUSH Sam Bennett though. That's where we miss Muzzin most.

This is the thing. They were linemates and Chucky knew he could take advantage of Marner at that stage and try to shake him up for game 5. Terror tactics from Maurice. They are going full shock and awe on the Panthers side and it might backfire in their faces. I hope it does they are playing like scum bags.

As long as this idiot Bettman is still running the show, it'll never be consistent. You don't see shit like this in any other sport. Imagine this happening after an NFL game or a UFC/Boxing match. There would be fines/suspensions all over the place.

You're allowing this shit to happen after the team already lost, they're trying to injure other players this isn't hockey. McCabe could have suffered a serious injury, you can break Marners nose with jabs, the Panthers players know there's no penalty after the game is over so they do whatever they want. It's pathetic and it pisses me the f*** off because our guys know they can't do the same shit back or DOPS will be immediately tweeting about it followed by a suspension.
They always allow that end of game stuff, so its not surprising or all that different

The hit Gudas lays likely gets another look if the jerseys are reversed

Not what happened at all but you do you bud.

I just came to post that David Kampf is a playoff warrior. Dubas 5 stars for bringing this player to Toronto.

Thank you.
Kampf plays better with more responsibility. Against TB where he was just the 4C carrying ZAR around he wasn't very noticeable but in an 11/7 format where we rely on him more he's really stepped up to the challenge. He was also good against Tampa in 2022 as our 3C

We dont' need Matthews, Marner and Tavares to be stars. Even if they played half of their capacity, we would be in a different stage right now
Matthews again to me was a no show. He just can't keep having bad games and shifts

Sure he looked better than his previous games, but to me expectation for him should be significantly higher

He simply cannot getting passes. Dude man up, put on your big boy pants and lets go

Him and Tavares need to deliver now.

Is that not half of his capacity though? Just because he no showed on the score sheet doesn't mean he wasn't putting in an effort especially defensively. Sounds to me like you're criticizing him for not playing at a star level (which is still understandable).

Can anyone explain why the coach would make an adjustment to the league's #2 ranked power play, knowing full well that PP opportunities are scarce once the playoffs start?

I mean if you're only getting 1 or 2 chances a game, do you really need a more effective 2nd unit?

He just needs to bury his chances.

He is generating more than the Tampa series, he just isn't burying.

There is a big difference. Also, play tends to be in the Florida end when he is on the ice.

Regular season: 26.0% (22.8% net PP)
Playoffs: 26.7% (26.7% net PP)

What's the issue?

Nylander is a little out of place since he isn't one of the players on the boards on PP1.

Also, I swear critics of years past were that we wouldn't change our PP...

It's still a massive long shot to come back in the series, but if they have any hope at all, they will have to bare down defensively the way they did last night the rest of the way.

This could be a mistake from them honestly. Before game 4, there was no real animosity or tension in the series, the first two games almost felt like regular season. Yes there was the dirty play by Bennett where there was pathetically no response, but other than that there wasn't really 'bad blood' between the teams and the lopsided series score didn't help.

But going after the team's heart and soul guy in Rielly like that at the end? That shit isn't gonna fly. Just like when Kucherov attacked Rielly and the Leafs jumped in. Florida may finally have actually pissed the team off now.

If he gets couple of goals next game. I bet you anything this series will be in our favor
The entire momentum will shift

If he can be a threat, the entire focus of Florida will be on him.

Yeah Marner kind of yelled at the ref to intervene because it looked like Chucky was going to starting filling him in and the end of game whistle was already gone. What was Marner supposed to do ? He didn't want the bigger stronger player tuning him up , Marner is not a scrapper. Who cares about the optics it's the end of the game Tkachuk was trying to take things to far. He was a little scared of being hurt for next game. Whatever Marner is not known as Captain Dangerous. Drop this narrative.
Optics is a big deal to the guys on the bench. How do you not stick up for yourself when you get punched 5 times in the face. Stamkos, mackinnon, crosby arent scrappers either but you dont see them allowing themselves to get bullied

Definitely. But listen to Marner's comments after the game. He knew what was going on and wanted no part of it for obvious reasons. Not much you can do except start a line brawl at that point and fall prey to exactly what the Panthers wanted.

Marner will never be tough. It is what it is.

You don't think the guys on the bench know their teammate?
He stopped Tkachuk from going in and suckering others, his teammates would be happy to see him hanging in there.

He didn't get bullied. He did his job and Tkachuk did his job.

It's really sad that the Leafs have no one, absolutely no one, who can go after Gudas. I can't name a guy. Maybe Simmonds but then you are wasting a roster spot for 3-4 min of ice time for a guy who cannot play.

That play of poor Kampf was violent and no one did shit.

You need real tough SOBs for the playoffs.

Bennett knocked out a rookie and no response either.

Ratf*ck punching Marner no response. We dont expect Marner to do anything there and its the end of the game but will we see anything game 5? No.

The excuse will be its a critical game. Cant take stupid penalties. We get that. But grow some balls.

But Marner is our superstar. He is a white glove guy. Not a blue collar guy. I just wish we had someone who can answer the call in those situations.

I do too but this is not that kind of Team.
I felt their response was great considering the personnel on the ice.
