After 3 Days:

StandingsDay3.png

The third day of action is now complete and FightingSioux jumps into the lead with some good output despite their only being a couple of games on the slate. Jason Robertson's four assist game and a win by Cayden Primeau helped propel him into the lead, but it remains close up at the top. Tomsburninghat manages to hang on to second with his five point outing while Christien drops from first to third with just a single point on the day. Statsy gets back into contention with a Joel Farabee hat-trick, a goalie win and most importantly, the potential confirmation of Kotchetkov as the starter for Russia. Day 4 has a another full slate of games on tap for us!

Today is probably going to be the best day of the tournament so far!

That's for sure. :D

2 hattricks for my team.

Kurashev x3, Poehling x3, and that's not all!

//It's pretty good to have 3 of top 4 players in the scoring, lol. That will make up for my disappointment from goalie selection.

After 4 Days:

StandingsDay4.png

Day four saw some crooked numbers being put up on the board! A pair of hatty's from Tade's guys (which he already made sure we were well aware of.) help power him to a pool best 12 point day, good for second place. Tomsburninghat also has a big 11 point day helping him claim top spot from FightingSioux, who had a very quiet day to drop down to 4th. The gap from third place to seventh remains small with everybody within striking distance of one another, but those top two guys seem to have a solid cushion on the field. Today will be a quiet day in the pool with only two games on the slate, and most of the weaker teams in action.

After 5 Days:

StandingsDay5.png

Despite there being little action as far as teams playing, numerous Russian players found their way on to the scoreboard creating a surprising amount of movement in the pool standings. Tade jumps up to tie Tom atop the table with 31 points, but takes first on the goals tie-breaker. WeThreeKings and Khabby each move up one spot after each picking up a pair of points. The action will be hot and heavy today as we hit the all-important final day of the preliminary round. Bring it on!

After Preliminary Round:

StandingsDay6.png

Despite the full schedule there wasn't a lot of movement in the standings today. The battle for top spot between Tade and Tomsburninghat has become an epic struggle as they both picked up five points today to remain tied. Christien remains in the bronze medal position, but his quiet two point day have let others close the gap. We now head into an off day before the quarterfinal games start putting an early end to the tournament for some.

My players are doing everything that is possible to close the gap for my non-existant goalie, these are terrific performances from the players I picked...

Tomsburninghat has huge advantage in DiPietro (if Canada will be succesfull, obviously) heading into the playoffs as we can expect that he will start all games. In that case it means that my players will need to be always better than tom's in the upcoming games, and it's really not going to be easy against Comtois, Wahlstrom, Bemstrom, Madden/Norris in the play-offs... It will be real battle.

Already looking forward to it, haha :D, good luck to everyone! Thanks for updates, Statsy.

This is the first year that I wasn't happy with my team. Hated waiting to take a goalie and taking a D man first pick has proved costly, but where I was I didn't feel like any impact forwards were still available.

I really can’t complain but Comtois spent a little too much time aggravating Russians and sitting in the box rather than scoring. Saying that, how could you not love that kid! Tough game for the Canadians but history tells us this is the adversity they need to go all the way.

Though I’m certainly aware of the drafting mistakes I made, the truly frustrating thing is when you pick a guy that you KNOW is a good pick and it just doesn’t work out. My top two choices have been my downfall, but Zadina had already lit this tournament up as an underager and there really is no reason that what was supposed to be a vaunted Czech offense has fallen flat. As for Tolvanen, he is channeling Jesse Puljujarvi’s first tournament as a 16 year... getting tons of shots, but just missing the mark or getting absolutely robbed. If those two guys were available for me next year (I know Tolvanen will age out), I would pick them again. I am pleased that my Kotchetkov gamble worked out. I thought that was good, and unfortunately he was a little TOO good against Canada.

After Quarterfinals:

StandingsQF.png

The epic struggle for first place isn't quite so epic anymore. Tade's nine point day has widened a significant gap at at time when most people have just lost half their team. Canada and Sweden both going out in the QF was in NOBODY's bracket, and it has cleaned house in this pool. Or is it a pool cleaning? It was a particularly rough day for Christien, who only picked up a single point to drop from 3rd to 6th. FightingSioux had a strong quarterfinal day picking eight points to move from 5th into the bronze medal position. As for my team, well... if I'm gonna win this thing it's going to have to be one helluva comeback! ;)

My team is unbeatable! :D And still with 6 players in! Fehervary with 3 points & Setkov with 2 yesterday, lol.

Sweden's loss is definitely huge surprise... but Switzerland played hell of game. I was impressed, they were all over the Swedes. Pulling for them now.

So ummm, go Finland? Can you put Heponiemi with Kakko and Lundell, they win both games 10-0 scoring all 10 goals and anytime they miss an assists it goes to Vaakanainen? That'd be great thanks.

TBH I'm rooting for the Swiss. IIRC they've never won more than Bronze so it would be cool for them to be in the GMG

After Semifinals:

We're now down to the last two games in this tournament. Tade remains with a comfortable 7 point lead, and just as importantly, the teams trying to chase him down have lost half of their players. However, the battle for Silver and Bronze remains an intriguing one with Tomsburninghat up by a single point on C4G, and with FightingSioux just one point further back! Should make for an exciting last day. Good luck, fellas!

Would be nice to see some of these Yankees get on the scoring sheet, Silver is better than bronze last time I checked. Sad I couldn't go B2B but it was a valiant effort. Sad day when Canada went down. DiPietro could've won this thing for me...he played amazing!

Final Standings:

StandingsFinal.png

The final numbers are in! A big congratulations goes out to Tade for his championship performance! And he said off the start that he hadn't been following junior hockey this year. Could've fooled me! It's also the second consecutive year that exactly 50 points was the winning score. Silver goes to Canada4Gold who managed to creep past Tomsburninghat at the very end. Tom will have to settle for the bronze, and barely, as FightingSioux finished one point off the podium. The rest of the guys had their struggles, including Christien who was doing well in this pool not to long ago before his team decided to give up on him. He did manage to hang on to 7th place over poor Statsy, who's nine skaters combined for a whopping 6 goals over the course of nearly two weeks. Thanks, team! :shakehead

I'd like to thank all you guys who entered this pool once again and especially Christien who filled in nicely for us on short notice. And finally let me say thanks for your patience this year with the slow updating. I spend nine or so hours watching the tournament every day and head straight to work for a graveyard shift all night. I've probably averaged under three hours of sleep per 24 hours since Christmas. Now that this is over I'm planning to sleep for a week!

Thanks again, and we'll see you all next year!

Well, it's 4th medal in a row for me, I guess I have to be doing something right. :D Tbh, I did not really expect it this year... I wasn't too keen on my team after the draft, really surprised with Kurashev's performance. Chmelevski was great replacement pick, too. My final score is pretty cool, 50 points, 25+25 and 0 points for goalie. :D

Congrats Canada4Gold on silver medal after a great FINISH! :D Tomsburninghat congrats on bronze medal, for quite a long time it looked as a battle between us for the gold... Christien really experienced huge drop-off in the standings. Anyway, congrats everyone and good luck next yr!

It was another enjoyable WJC and nice time here, I am already looking forward to next year.... I will definitely attend some games as the WJC is coming back to Czech Republic after 12 years, pretty excited for it.

Huge thanks goes to Statsy for running this draft year after year! See you next year in the Czech Republic, guys. :)

//Statsy, I really did not follow junior hockey this season until WJC! :D I am not not kidding, haha. For example, it's obvious that Frost is top prospect but I took him especially because he's Flyers prospect and I just wanted him. :D

Thanks Statsy for the awesome pool again this year and contract to Tade for winning, and Tom for Bronze. I really came on down the stretch with the Fins but they just didn't score enough goals at the beginning of the tournament to make winning actually feasible. I'm pleased with 2nd place. See you all next year again I hope
