I'm off to a pathetic start in my other pools. Somehow 7 points from 6 guys so far here with 4 Americans tonight. Need to keep it going.

As I crunched the numbers, I suddenly realized I hadn't made up a graphic for the actual standings. I'll whip one up tomorrow, so for the first day we'll just have to do it the old fashioned way.

Interestingly, it seems the first day of games divided us into two groups; those of us who had a great day, and those of us who somehow all got exactly five points.

Canada4Gold and GrandLarseny are tied for top spot with 11 points apiece. Christien is hot on their tail with 10 while Tom sits 4th with a repectable 7 point day. As previously mentioned, everyone else got off to a somewhat slow start with just 5 points. There are 4 games on tap tomorrow, though with Canada and the US inactive, it's largely the lower ranked teams in action. Possible stat padding nights for a couple of teams.

Today's numbers: (edited for a correction to Tom's table)
GrandLarseny - 11 pts (7-2-2-0-11)
Canada4Gold - 11 pts (4-5-2-0-11)
Christien - 10 pts (2-6-2-0-10)
Tomsburninghat - 7 pts (2-5-0-0-7)
Khabby - 5 pts (4-1-0-0-5)
Statsy - 5 pts (2-3-0-0-5)
FightingSioux - 5 pts (0-3-2-0-5)
WeThreeKings - 5pts (1-4-0-0-5)

I've got 0 chance. Jiricek out and Russian coach thinks Guskov who let in the worst goal of the tournament in relief (which sealed the game) is a better option than Askarov.

Anyone see Wallstedt try to score on the empty net against Russia yesterday. I'm still trying to petition to @Statsy that goalie points should count. How awesome would it have been to get a goal from your goalie?

Sorry for the delay, but I had to go to work after the games. Shouldn't be a problem the next two days.

Canada4Gold picks up six points (on a surprisingly low point day overall) to jump into a four point lead over GrandLarseny. Christien just got the single today, but it's still good enough to secure third ahead of FightingSioux, who posted the second best tally on the day with 5 points on the strength of the Wallstedt shutout. Everyone else remains in single digits after two days of play.

Today's Numbers:

Canada4Gold - 6 pts
FightingSioux - 5 pts
Khabby - 4 pts
WeThreeKings - 4 pts
GrandLarseny - 2 pts
Statsy - 2 pts
Christien - 1 pt
Tomsburninghat - 0 pts

The scoring has been pretty low so far in this tournament, but let's see if Canada and the US can light it up as they get back into action today.

(Edit: ...aaaand I go on to TSN to see the US forfeited their game today. )

After Day 3:

The cancellation of the US/Swiss game put a lot of pressure on the Canada/Austria game to produce, but it didn't disappoint. C4G maintains top spot, but GrandLarseny has pulled within a couple points thanks to a number of helpers from Guenther and Power. Khabby rode the 4 goal game from Bedard into a big rise up the board. By the way, the next person that tells me that this is a "19 year-old's tournament" is going to get strangled! Statsy also has a good day, picking up 5 points, with McTavish contributing heavily. Christien, FS, and WTK each pick up a single today while Cole Perfetti picks up three points for Tom.

Today's Numbers:

Khabby - 5 pts
Statsy - 5 pts
GrandLarseny - 4 pts
Tomsburninghat - 3 pts
Canada4Gold - 2 pts
FightingSioux - 1 pt
Christien - 1 pt
WeThreeKings - 1 pt

It's a full slate of games for tomorrow... or is it? The status of the US/Sweden game remains up in the air, with those with American players on their team crossing their fingers.

Can Commesso please not be the American goalie who tested positive? Thanks.

What happens if all 3 American goalies can't play and they put Brock Faber in net? Not allowed to get goals and assists from goalies, need a ruling on whether I can get wins and shutouts from skaters who are forced to play goalie

This has been such a weird year for goalies. Guys that were expected starters are now somehow third stringers, and now this Covid thing. If it makes you feel any better, I was pretty much forced into taking Bednar knowing he had to pick up a win with hopefully a shutout vs Germany and he ended up getting out duelled and lost.

That’s a shame. This really is my favourite thing on the entire calendar. There’s even more bad news for Canada4Gold... sorry, no pool win for you. :sarcasm:

I take some solace in the fact that we got a sneak peak at the future of hockey in Michkov and Bedard and they exceeded expectations. Just imagine how good they’ll be next year.

Hopefully things will work out better next year and they can take the lessons they learned from this into the 2023 WJC.

Thanks for playing, everyone, and we’ll see you again next year!
