I really hope we get to read some beautiful stories on other people who have benefited from Melynks plea.

Agreed.

I'm really thankful so many people came forward for Melynk, but it would be the cherry on the sundae to find out that plea took a chunk of people off the waiting list. Now that would be a real miracle.

I thought I had heard on the radio that two other people benefited from the matching process but I can't find anything on it online.

If true though, that alone was worth Eugene going public. Two more lives saved.

I actually wrote the CP asking if they could do a followup on this.
Got a response back from a health reporter saying that she'll ask these questions at tomorrow's press conference regarding the surgery (so apparently there's a press conference scheduled for tomorrow).

But that yes, some of the potential donors did indicate that they'd be willing to donate elsewhere if not chosen for Mr. Melnyk.

I've been reading message boards on various sites regarding Melnyk's surgery. There is one Canadian site in particular where the comments regarding this whole transplant issue are disgusting. There appear to be a whole lot of miserable people out there. Mind you the donors that came forward for Menlyk and others has restored some of my faith in mankind. My uncle died at age 50 from liver failure. No one in our family was a match and he died on the recipient list. I'm not angry or bitter that Melnyk got a liver through a public plea. It just so happens he's a well known person and that makes your plight all the more public. I hope he and the donor are doing well.

I think Melnyk will be smart and will use his persona to promote organ donation once he is healthy.

Melnyk may come out of this a new man. He came within a **** hair of death, that kind of thing must shake someone to the core.

Unfortunately I cannot be a live donator because of previous abdominal surgeries, I did try though and did sign up. I'd glady help out the others on the list if I could :( But I am an organ donator on my Service Canada records.

I'm pretty proud of Sens fans for stepping up the way they have. Really happy for Melnyk and hope both him and the donator get well soon.

Nice :)

I hope all my body parts get put to good use when I die. Even as an aphrodisiac

Maybe with all the extra donors Melnyk can keep a stockpile of livers in the freezer. A pool of livers just in case. A Liverpool if you will

Mr. Melnyk's donor asked to remain anonymous but noted that "bringing the Stanley Cup home to Ottawa" was part of the motivation. #BeADonor

This person gave a liver for the good of the team.
That's what I call a fan.

Haha, this cracked me up.

Seriously, though, super impressed with how this turned out. Both the fact that there are numerous people still willing to donate and the fact that Melnyk's donor wishes to remain anonymous.

Now I just hope Melnyk comes out of this a new man with a new perspective on life. Willing to do whatever it takes to give such a compassionate fanbase a shot at the Stanley Cup. No more budget cap or claiming that a casino was necessary for the team to compete financially.

Melnyk saves franchise, now the franchise has saved Melnyk. Pretty poetic..
