Given how strong the top-8 in the west is right now, the Yotes have a serious possibility of going into a mini-rebuild.

And since you didn't land Ehrhoff or Niskanen today, would you have any interest in Yandle this off-season?

If we are really going into a short-rebuild situation, we would most likely be looking for futures that are close to being NHL ready (in a year or so).

Any ideas?

Paul was a good hockey player for us and had an unreal season last year. But this feels nowhere near as bad as losing Forsberg and Foote in the same offseason. Fact is, the AVs still have an incredible depth at center.

I wish him the best of luck and think he made the wisest decision for himself by taking a raise and moving to a team that is good and will give him an opportunity to stay in the top lines for the duration of his contract. I actually think it will be fun to see our team battling against him in the future.

Paul Stastny just told SportsNet a big reason he chose STL was the Blues' puck moving D .. In other words the #Avs still need a big D splash

Yes, I'm sure Paul will be glad to have Shatty back, as well as JayBo, AP27, etc. sending tape to tape passes on the breakout.

Meh. Joke's on him. Duchene and MacKinnon will have Stuart feeding them passes.......

That was a bad summer. Yup, this is nothing compare to that season.
On the other hand, I don't see this signing will take St Louis over the hump. They still need lot more leadership.

I can see where Roy/Sakic going, if you see other young teams: this team needs veteran leadership.

7M?!?

Good riddance to that then. He wasn't even worth his old contract at 6.6 so I'm not even disappointed about his leaving.

The writing was on the wall and I was prepared for it.

Yeah.. he better produce or he will actually become the scapegoat. I personally don't think he was the piece that St Louis needed to put them over the top (been saying that for months).

I would have offered him 6 years at 6M and if he walked for that, good riddance.

He's being paid the most not he team and kinda by far and especially taking Pietro out of the equation. I always agreed with you that Anaheim or Dallas where he wasn't THE man were better fits for him. If he got crap for being the highest paid player here for so many years it's not going to get better in St Louis.

I won't kick him while he's out the door. I understand it was a UFA situation and I do believe he wanted to stay to a certain degree. It's sad, he's been here a long time and I always hoped we could put 26 in the rafters for him. But I believe in MacKinnon as a cornerstone of the team and if it wasn't the best situation for him I can't disagree. I won't ever wish St. Louis success but I won't wish him ill. Sorry to see you go, Pauly.

And now I begin to wonder if I should unfollow Staz on twitter now that he's not here anymore.

I can't follow former players. It's not personal, I just don't want to hear about what's going on with other teams.

I'm sure he'll be classy and he won't throw anyone under the bus. No doubt he will still be friends with some of the guys.

Totally agree with this. I hope Stastny lights it up just not against us and not to the point St. Louis ever wins anything. I would totally welcome him back in 4 years if things don't work out as he really does start to enter his 3rd line center days.

Not to mention the pressure of "being home" wont do him any favors either. Plus St. Louis has choked the last 3 years in the playoffs. You gotta think Hitch and upper management have to be on thin ice. One more early playoff exit and someone like Granato could be his coach in 2015-16.

I would be willing to bet Sakic offered the same 5.5 he gave Iggy (although with a longer term) and never budged. All the negotiation was probably over exact term and variations on a NTC. If that is the case then I don't blame him at all for leaving.

Be interested to hear Joe and Patrick's take when they introduce Iggy to the media.

Well, it played out pretty much like I thought it would. Only thing that disappoints me is that the Avs held on to Stastny when it appears they weren't willing to even match his former deal. I always thought that with the strength at center, and with ROR making Stastny redundant, Staz should've been the guy to go for some D. Hopefully the Avs had their reasons for hanging on to him and it's not just another case of bad asset management.

I think, in the end, taking a "hometown discount," which is also a paycut, was probably a bit too much to stomach for someone who could also see that he wasn't exactly needed in Colorado. Taking a paycut here also means getting moved to wing, or moved down the depth chart, or even traded to a team not of his choosing. Let's be honest, Colorado isn't all that appealing of a situation at this point for him, when he could get a raise elsewhere while also playing a bigger role.

Can't blame him, that's for sure, just wish the Avs had flipped him for a D prospect or something at least.

Not heartbroken about this. Duchene-MacKinnon has been the future of this team since last June. He's too good to be a 3rd line center. He'll look really good in a Blues jersey too. It just seems to fit perfectly. He was great while he was here, but the team obviously has a plan, and having a 7 million dollar third line center in a few years was not in the plan. I hope he finds individual success in St. Louis. Have to respect him for how he gave the Avs every chance to bring him back.
