I think Murat mentioned it's unlikely he returns at the end of our season. I'll see if I can dig it up and edit this post.

Edit
Don't have athletic anymore but it's referenced in this post

money talks. he's not going to get an offer over $2m anywhere but here.

He's made so much cash in his career but is still missing a cup and likely has at most two years left. My guess and substantiated by his interview is thay winning one is now his first priority.

stastny will have plenty of suitors. id think most PO teams can use a strong 2-way middle 6 C, and what appears to be a strong leader. he put up 45 pts in 71 gp. that's still v good production. this isn't a ryan getzlaf on his way out.

Not sure he does that again. This past year was his first year in the past three with those results and he isn't getting any younger.

Chevy mentioned he wanted Stastny back and the end of year presser. I don’t think he says that if Stastny was 100% gone.

I think this really does depend on the coaching hire to signal if we’re going for it next year (I assume we are).

Can you name a player that's getting younger?
The past three years he been over a half ppg pace. Unless you think he's gonna lose his hockey IQ he probably hovers around the same. I recall this conversation last year too and he went on to out up another year above 0.5ppg

Might be my favourite Jet of all time. I think he was a true professional every single shift with the Jets. I love how he would take the penalty before he'd let someone beat him one on one.

I suspect he goes back to St. Louis, if he can. Closer to home.

Thank you for the leadership Paul!

I'd expect 40 points from him

But this raises another puzzling question for me. Stastny still plays an excellent game at C -a position of need on the Jets. Why on earth did we not see him deployed as a 3rd line C this past year - especially given the relative underperformance of Lowry`s line? I know that Dubois` arrival was important with respect to our thinking on the top 2 lines but .... sheeesh.

That's the type of roster composition Chevy and co wants. 5 years 3.25m and in less than a year the players demoted to 4c? Probably not a good look. They'll give him every opportunity to justify that contract. Also probably doesn't help his dad coached the team.

Lowry was playing some shutdown hockey early in the year. Not much points either way. But easily our best defensive player, in terms of defensive metrics, from a defensive zone standpoint.

I still remember that we got into stretch time with Stastny-Lowry-Poganski as the checking line, Poganski having beat out other failed candidates early in the year such as Harkins, Toninato and Vesalainen...all wingers with less points than Lowry. And Adam Brooks too. For the month of February and March it was a choice between Reichel and Poganski as the last top 9 winger. With Ehlers going down, and then Perfetti, and Copp getting intermittently knocked out, there really wasn't much of a team. Svetchnikov I suppose could have played on a defensive zone checking line, but I think that's wishful thinking about the game he brings. And he was getting alternated by coach Lowry with Poganski in and out of the lineup for a stretch.

I don't think Stats has the speed to be a true shutdown centre. The only other guy who was capable of being that guy was being played up the lineup for some trade deadline value.

It was yet another in a long line of silly deployment decisions under Maurice that continued under Lowry. As I said I hope the org has seen what every contender this year is doing with its third line and adapts accordingly.
