Online Series: Star Wars: Ahsoka (August 23rd)

I didn't realize Claudia Black was in the latest episode! That alone makes it worth a watch.

So I finally got caught up so here I am in the thread.

I like it.

The CGI is mainly used for backgrounds so it’s more nuanced and the colour palettes they have used (e.g. the Ahsoka-Anakin war sequences, the forested planet) are pleasing to the eye.

Baylan is an intriguing character and most of the characterizations have been on point. Thrawn is like a blue Magnussen from Sherlock but that’s ok because I liked him too. I even like the Jedi droid who is like a less annoying version of C-3PO.

There is some ham and cheese here and there (e.g. space whales, some interesting decisions made for plot purposes) but overall I think it stands up well in the SW universe.

What sucks about it is that the First Order is inevitable so everything that they are doing now is basically pointless.

Oh, and I never saw Rebels. I did read the Timothy Zahn trilogy.

It’s just glad that 95% of the characters are new and original and not derivative of Tatooine and the original trilogy.

Not the best episode probably one of the worst of the season for me.

Ezra not using his lightsaber was kinda annoying.

The Baylan and Ahsoka fight was way too short.

Ahsoka being able to defeat Maul 1v1 but not Baylan is kinda annoying for me but I that just means Baylan is that powerful.

It was an entertaining episode but not necessarily a good episode for me. I feel like that’s a good way to put it.

I thought it was the best episode so far as a person who doesn’t care about rebels or the clone wars. Ezra seems kinda….lame though?
He was very Ezra in that episode. Protecting the creatures. The sense of humor. The rapport with Sabine.

Him not using the lightsaber kinda sucked, but also made sense. Sabine is too focused on weapons, that is why she fails as a force user. They wanted to make that "opposition".

Thrawn was also very Thrawn and it was the best part of the episode to me.

Baylan and Ahsoka will have a show down during the finale, I think.

Ahsoka outsmarted him.

That’s the impression I got as well so we will have to see! They also don’t have that much time left on the planet either unless they somehow figure out another way out of that galaxy.

Worst episode of the season? Didn't see it that way at all. First couple were slow and rocky but I thought this was just another fun adventure in this narrative.

As fun as it would be to see live action Ezra in some lightsaber combat, my annoyance with his refusal to take the saber passed very quickly. I mean Jedi are supposed to be, essentially, space monks. So the shaolin action monk stuff worked for me personally.

I could have dealt with better fight chorography. He hasn't had access to a saber for ten years so it makes sense he'd use telekinesis as a stand in. So it doesn't fit that Not Scarlett Johansen was able to one up him there.

Episode while still solid felt kinda off to me. The fighting felt clunky. Maybe it was just me but it looked strange. Hopefully season finale is a banger. I guess I didn't realize this show is going to have multiple seasons? No way they end everything in one episode. Would be very disappointed with that. We just met live action Thrawn and Ezra. Guessing they get back to our galaxy and there is a season of fighting them. I think Shin will eventually turn back to the light.

I think the goal is to have all of the Mandoverse (Mandalorian, Ahsoka and Book of Boba Fett) culminating in a movie in which Thrawn is the main villain. Filoni is supposed to direct if I remember correctly. Title of the movie could/should be "Heir to the Empire".

Oh, and I agree with you that Shin will eventually turn back to the light.

Or with Baylan unavailable going forward, they could steer her to become the main dark side using villain. Which I think would be more interesting anyway. Plus as far as I'm aware, there's no established "Sith like" characters to have for future lightsaber clashes at Thrawn's bidding.

Given Shin's age, why are we assuming she was ever to the light? Or have I miscalculated her age? Empire has been defeated and Luke was mid 20's. Shin would have been a youngling at most if he was part of the Jedi order.

If we’re using the actors real age like they did with the prequels (Padme and Anakin), then she would’ve been born during clone wars but still too young to have ever been apart of the Jedi Order. We’ll know more as the show develops. But it seems to me at least she was definitely born sometime before the siege of mandalore.

There’s just so much to explore given there’s like a 30-40 year period between the Battle of Endor and the Force Awakens. Very curious to see if they explore Shin as the main antagonist/anti-hero in further seasons. She’s shaping up to be a truly wonderful character. Power hungry, ambitious, yet very curious and inexperienced. With Baylan likely to be killed off next episode, it will be interesting what kind of arc they plan for her. RIP Ray

Shin was born about 5-8 years after the clone wars give or take.

Maybe I'm just taking the quote of "back to the light" to mean that she was part of the light before. But, if you haven't been, then you really are not going back to something you were never part of. That would apply to Baylan who was a Jedi.

Again, she at most would have been a youngling depending on her age. The actor is in her mid 20's. But, this can range up to another 5-7 years if SW wants her to be older.

With Baylan, it would be sad if they had planned to kill him off in season 1, but also would be sad if they didn't and given the passing of the Actor, to just kill him off screen would be a downer too. Or the 3rd option is that they did a re-shoot after his passing and have to CGI his face to kill him off.

Yeah I edited my post. There’s no way she’s born after the clone wars. I would say Season 6 of the Clone wars is around the time she was born with the available info we have.
