Like, where the puck did those Panthers all of a suddenly come from???? Barely made it into the Playoffs, and are killing it!

We've seen this in the past.

Last year they were the best team in the NHL. They entered this post season on an 8 game winning streak or something? Was it 10? They are as good a team as any, especially with good goaltending.

Who knew Rod the Bod would turn into such a good coach. He really is doing a fantastic job.

I think there has to be something said for a coach that clearly is extremely personally disciplined and committed to a sterling work ethic.

The Canes players are in the gym watching Rod rep out 315 on the bench and out lift all of them. The dude is a warrior and he’s committed to fitness despite his NHL career being over.

I don’t know. I think that probably gets a lot of buy in fron the boys. Rod walks the walk.

Really good article.

Some quotes
No team in the NHL has a more defined identity than the Hurricanes. The team’s system relies on relentless forechecking, active blueliners and a five-man commitment to defense that both generates constant pressure and limits chances against.
Second-year winger Seth Jarvis saw his numbers dip in his sophomore campaign, but what was gained was much more valuable — a commitment to two-way play, a desire to be on the team’s penalty kill and strict adherence to the Hurricanes’ system.
“That’s been our style all year long,” Staal said after Friday’s win. “Really, first and foremost, give them nothing and then just be tenacious on the puck and create turnovers and send it to the net.”

The wash, rinse, repeat style creates two expectations.

For one, the Hurricanes players know what to expect regardless of which linemates are on the ice. That makes inserting new players in the lineup easier than on other teams. Secondly, their opponents know they’re in for a long night — or, in the Devils’ case, a long series.

Some mindset lessons the Sens could benefit from in there. Canes have done a fantastic job getting to where they are without the likes of Pacioretty, Svechnikov and Terivainen.

As with our young Sens team, relentless forecheck is the way in the playoffs, and is also hella entertaining to watch.

More consistency and responsibility to get back and we’ll make some noise. Our guys already have the motor and the drive, and the style of play going for them.

One thing we have over teams like NJ and Caroline going forward if we can put it together is that both those teams are pretty soft compared to our team identity.

I like the Florida model a bit more to be honest, with matthew and guys like Gudas and Bennet they have a lot more grit to go with the pressure.

I’ve always felt that we pushed NJ and Caroline around when we play them And our guys are still so young.

Evan Bouchard is becoming one of best players of 2018 draft. He was much maligned and undervalued by this very Senators board in his draft year.

Bouchard is the product of the London Knights pro hockey factory. He is being compared to Paul Coffey and Steve Smith when it comes to point streaks in the playoffs with the Oilers.

He was my guy at the draft, was totally ready to have him at 4OA (clearly Tkachuk worked out well for us)! Loved his shot from the blue line, something we've missed for years, until hopefully Chychrun. Couldn't believe how far he fell at the draft.

I don't remember much malignment. I remember people thinking he was a good player but not the right choice at 4. Which I think continues to be true today. Would still take Dobson above him.

The Devil's might actually be in for a short series if they don't do something in the next game.

Watching Oilers last night in the 1st/2nd looked like they had a cheat code, or like if you are playing a game where your characters are too powerful for the level.

I’m not sure of that he had many fans on this site, but it was such a deep draft of prospects there were so many good ones

Don't think he was much maligned at all. Just seen as a reach at 4.

I know @aragorn was a big fan.

Defence take time and the Oil were patient. But, the impact that Ekholm has had can't be understated either.

Also had some competition with Hughes and Dobson on D. I would not bet Bouchard goes ahead of them in a redraft.
