Apparently size does matter, who knew?
Kleven is a big rangy defender who can skate and move the puck. He can also hammer the puck and plays a nasty physical game.

Not sure how long we’re going to wait to get him up to speed in the NHL. This isnt a guy coming out of junior after the draft.

How bout Stephenson eh, dude makes $2.75 million per season and has scored at a 60 pt pace with Vegas over the last few years. Talk about value deals.

Why in the world did we not sign Mark Stone?

One of the silliest moves the Senators organization has ever made. The guy has a puck magnet attached to his stick!

If we don't win a cup with this core I am blaming it on the absence of Stone.

We didn't sign him because he didn't want to extend with a rebuilding team, at least not at what we were offering.

I wonder how differently it all turns out if the team were willing to offer a full NMC. That seemed to be the sticking point as I remember it. But oh well, no sense in rehashing old history, just glad the man's on the precipice of his first Cup. So deserved.

We tried to sign him. Melnyk apparently didn't want to give him a NTC, like with Karlsson.

It's probably for the best he ended up getting traded. He might be my favorite Senator of all-time but we needed to go full rebuild once Karlsson was out the door, and I wouldn't want to have him signed for another 4 years @ 9.5M per.

Big UFA contracts for guys in their late 20s/early 30s rarely work out. Made sense for a team like Vegas trying to contend but wouldn't have been smart for us.

The issue is not that we traded him but the return we got. Sad that all we have to show for dealing him is Brannstrom and Sokolov.

I would have handed him a no-trade cause like it was nothing. I remember people thinking he would age poorly due to his skating.... His stick and his mind are so quick that he slows down the game around him.

Anyways, I am preaching to the choir, I love Mark Stone. I remember after first season where I kind of expected him to steal the puck at least twice a game.

One of my favourite moments was when we were playing the Avs and he pickpocketed Iginla at centre ice and skated in and scored.

It was glorious.
I have so many memories of him somehow floating just inside the offensive blue line. The defenceman would try to make a break out pass and Stone would pick it off walk in and score, he did it at least 10 times.

I'd have been shocked if he stuck around for whatever we offered him, but a nostalgic part of me would've be fine with im at $9.5 million for 4 more years. He never takes a shift off and is responsible on every end of the ice. Would've been captain as well.

Ignore everything I post about stone, I have rose coloured glasses for him since he's my favourite forward in the league

Ekblad is a really disappointing first overall pick. Florida needs to shake up their dcore: Ekblad, Gudas and Staal are washed.

Stone wasn't staying because he knew the writting was on the wall and we weren't offering a long term deal due to Screuge.

Similar to Heatley who knew the implosion was just around the bend. It sucks to say but Heatley was absolutely correct in wanting out.

Heatley wanted out because of Clouston, Melnyk wasn’t even divorced until close to 2 years after Heater left.

That seems to make sense as Heatley was an offensive player who wanted to score goals, not back check to prevent them. Very similar to Spezza. Cannot blame them as NHL teams pay scorers much more than defensive-oriented players. However, if a player wants to win the SC, then . . .

Heatley helped take this team to it's only Stanley Cup appearance, he did his job & then some. After being one of their best players on the PP Clouston decided to take him off of it, where they make their money, he was offended & wanted out because of it.

Still think there was some issues between Heatley and Spezza that contributed to him wanting out.
