Because they're playing harder because it's the playoffs, and therefore the borderline calls on slashes and cross-checks and hooks are done with more force, and therefore are called and would be called in the season if done as forcefully as they are now during the playoffs.

What episode? I'm a huge fan and have seen every episode many times but can't draw a conclusion off the top of my head.

They don't give a shit about any tiny percentage..I notice they try to satisfy the most possible amount of people they can (for votes). You can't satisfy everyone. Any small percentage of anything usually falls through the cracks when votes are involved.
