While I don't disagree about Kucherov, Stamkos put up the most points of his career in a season where Kuch missed pretty much half of it. Tampa's system is nuts and allows crazy talented dudes to flourish.I think it's a lot simpler than that. Nikita Kucherov is likely the best playmaking winger in the history of the game. Find another one of those and Stamkos will produce again.
He was 31 at that time though. While I don't disagree about Kucherov, Stamkos put up the most points of his career in a season where Kuch missed pretty much half of it. Tampa's system is nuts and allows crazy talented dudes to flourish.
Agreed. I hope no one's taking it as me disparaging anything or anyone, I'm just really in awe of Tampa's program. He was 31 at that time though.
He's now 35 and clearly not the same player.

Statistically, those extra $15m don’t make a generational difference at all.
The immediately preceding generation squanders that wealth and are most likely to not build on it at all

You just described "cooked."Stamkos is not cooked.
He is just what you can expect from a player with so much mileage (17 seasons and a lot of playoff games) and serious injuries which already slowed him down and everyone knows it.
Combining it with the fact that he is playing for a bad team and not having Kucherov as playmaker his numbers absolutly make sense. Everything else would have been surprising. He was not known as playdriver, he is still known for his shot.
A lot of good or great players are already retired after 17 seasons.
Only very few play 20 seasons and can keep up like Crosby and Ovechkin
This will be for sure his last contract.
Nope.You just described "cooked."
Stamkos last year: 81 points in 79 gamesNope.
He is decling a bit every year, but he is not done yet.
He is not falling off a cliff this year. He just does not have the same team around him.
Big difference
But maybe he will be cooked in a year or two
New team, new team mates. Worse team....Stamkos last year: 81 points in 79 games
Stamkos this year: 46 points in 76 games
He's cooked. Nothing to be ashamed about, as you pointed out it happens to everyone not named Crosby or Ovechkin. Don't need to beat around the bush though
A guy that sees a significant drop off in production when they are not longer playing in the most favorable environment possible is the definition of cooked.New team, new team mates. Worse team....
I don't think he is much worse than last year.
I even think he will bounce back to 55 to 60 points next year and steadily decline the last two years of his contract.
We will see.
