We certainly aren't/weren't beating the top teams like Florida, Carolina, Tampa, etc, in multiple seven games series to win a Cup without Kakko and Laf getting going. Maybe now if the light is on for Kakko and he continues to produce, and Laf joins him, we have an outside chance. However historically speaking those teams will wear us out in the playoffs because we lack the top end talent to put it all together through four rounds, we still lack an elite 2C (really a second 1C) and another elite winger.

If we were to acquire those pieces at the deadline, fine, but I would say I'm relatively against giving up high end prospects for short term rentals at this point.
Chances are we might only face one of those three clubs if we finish high enough and somebody knocks one of the trio off . I don't see TB having that extra edge or will for a 3 peat.....time will tell. We have not played Carolina yet with our new coach in place or a hot Shesterkin . I agree about not trading any blue chip drafts or kids just yet for a short playoff run . I think our club will be even better come mid March.....wait for it !!! Keep the faith .

I’d overpay for gourde honestly and I’d start with kravtsov and Lundkvist if need be.

I’d then self rent Strome for the cup run but I’d let him walk in the off-season if I had gourde. Maybe wishful thinking but seattle would be dumb to hold veterans right now. They should sell everything. Including Giordano if they can
Can we even afford Gourde past this season?

Yet over the past 13 years, 77% of the Cups have been won by only 4 teams.

A grand total of 3 other Cups in that span were won by 3 other teams. Of those three teams, I'd probably classify 2 of them as good enough/"elite," enough to win multiple times - luck or bad matchups just prevented them. Those two teams I'd say were Boston and Washington.

The Blues were the only non-elite team in the entire past 13 years to win a Cup. So it's possible. Just not what you should be aiming for if you actually want to win something cause you are talking about single digit percent chances.

Well, we clearly don't have a Crosby and Malkin combo from their age 18 years.

But it would not be impossible for us to continue to accumulate some more high end talent.

Again, I think we need another top center and another top winger, along with the development of Laf/Kakko/Chytil and the maintenance of Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider at their levels.

We weren't really that far from pulling off an Eichel trade so it's not impossible. And if Kravtsov returns there is hopefully another of the pieces there.

I'd say that will put is in a top, top echelon. The Rangers do have to have their eyes on impending declines of Kreider, Zibanejad and Panarin though, and have options to replace down the line. Perhaps Othmann is a Kreider replacement on some level.

The younger we can get these pieces the better, because that's all the longer we can compete for Cups. I want multiple rings here, not just one. You go on a Blues-like Cup run out of no where, you can pretty much take it to the bank that that's all you're gonna get.
Get an early Cup . The first one has to be won before you get a second and or a third . Pens did not win 3 in a row . They won an early one....and then pieced together a decent club a few years after to win two more . A hot goalie and a decent PP/Malkin/Crosby and a bunch of sluggers won a couple for the Penguins.....there is no handed down recipe for success....that changes every season since 2007 with the Ducks winning ....They had Niedermayer and Pronger and I think Pronger missed a few games in semis & the Finals as my wife's Nephew[Ric Jackman] filled in for him for 6-7 games . A young Getz and Perry and a hard working club .....with Kunitz-Brad May-AndyMcDonald-Penner-Rob Niedermayer-Parros -Thornton-Pahlson-Ryan Carter-Marchant.....Selanne and a few more and some stalwarts on their D in Niedermayer/Pronger/Beauchemin/O'Donnell . We could easily enough become a team like them in the near future under Gallant with better goaltending . The C depth was not over the top...but very defensive minded and then you have Kunitz....a real PITA ....maybe Goodrow becomes him ? Anyways...I see similarities and with some luck....it's possible .

Gallant does a great job answering questions. Very complimentary of his players.
When Gallant coached our local Tier 2 Junior club if they lost he would be furious and would drive around for a couple of hours to calm down before he would go home....He has a home right beside my wife's Aunt . She just told me that yesterday....I was kind of surprised....and she was kind of surprised seeing him on the Ranger bench LOL.....she does not follow it much these days and obviously she has not been listening to me either.....

Finally someone who sees that a hard working team that is well coached and has excellent goaltending has a chance. Of course it takes certain breaks here and there but all championship teams have them. The team has talent that is starting to be used properly, now let’s enjoy this. I believe this team will only get better as they learn to trust GG and what he has brought here
