Yet over the past 13 years, 77% of the Cups have been won by only 4 teams.
A grand total of 3 other Cups in that span were won by 3 other teams. Of those three teams, I'd probably classify 2 of them as good enough/"elite," enough to win multiple times - luck or bad matchups just prevented them. Those two teams I'd say were Boston and Washington.
The Blues were the only non-elite team in the entire past 13 years to win a Cup. So it's possible. Just not what you should be aiming for if you actually want to win something cause you are talking about single digit percent chances.
Well, we clearly don't have a Crosby and Malkin combo from their age 18 years.
But it would not be impossible for us to continue to accumulate some more high end talent.
Again, I think we need another top center and another top winger, along with the development of Laf/Kakko/Chytil and the maintenance of Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider at their levels.
We weren't really that far from pulling off an Eichel trade so it's not impossible. And if Kravtsov returns there is hopefully another of the pieces there.
I'd say that will put is in a top, top echelon. The Rangers do have to have their eyes on impending declines of Kreider, Zibanejad and Panarin though, and have options to replace down the line. Perhaps Othmann is a Kreider replacement on some level.
The younger we can get these pieces the better, because that's all the longer we can compete for Cups. I want multiple rings here, not just one. You go on a Blues-like Cup run out of no where, you can pretty much take it to the bank that that's all you're gonna get.
