You’re also overly optimistic about fans wanting to use public transportation. It wouldn’t jive with the tailgating culture thats been built up around Bills games. Plus for a decent chunk of fans its not really an option (Canadians).

I’d love to see a downtown stadium. But its benefits vs the OP location aren’t as cut and dry as your trying to make them.

What a lot of people don't get is Buffalo is basically a hick town a stones throw away from cow pastures and hunting camps. We don't know how to behave like cultured big city folks.

I am pleasantly surprised to see there is NO threat to move the Bills to Toronto. Perhaps Canadians will finally get it thru our thick skulls that the NFL will NEVER come to Canada.

Not even close.

Lack of upgrades:
- We're not going to install another 50 suites.
- We're not going to rip out this area and make a party deck.
- We're not going to gut the premium clubs and rebuild them with more amenities.

Didn't take care of the place:
- That bathroom is broken, we're not going to bother fixing it.
- That section of concrete is chipping away, we're not going to patch it.
- There is water leaking in from the outside, we're not going to plug that up.

As much as my nerdy self would love that, never going to happen. They could get most of the way there on existing / unused freight right of ways ,but they would hit a NIMBY wall from all the OP homeowners who don't want easy access for those dirty city people. Go read the comments from Amherst residents on the Metro expansion that way. It would be identical.

I lived in Amherst when they looked at expanding and was duly embarrassed by my fellow townspeople and their commentary. One of the major undercurrents of the area, on display, and they won the day.

Using the existing structure as a starting point and refurbishing it into something outstanding should be the way to go. It'd be essential, however, to commission a really innovative and talented architect.

Do that and the stadium will not only become a true icon for city, but also the physical embodiment of the continuation of tradition into the future.
Which is something that so many sports franchises try to accomplish with inept and sometimes even phony methods and therefore usually fail miserably.

It would also very likely be the most ecological alternative.

Isn’t that last part of PSE? Didn’t they invest in the train station for this reason?

Wouldn’t the city want this? Huge for downtown revitalization.

A Buffalo Bills stadium study prepared for Pegula Sports and Entertainment also outlines ideas for upgrading KeyBank Center, the home of the Buffalo Sabres.
But don't expect any immediate improvements at the downtown arena.
"Right now, we are solely focused on the future of the Bills and the stadium," said Ron Raccuia, executive vice president with PSE. "Once we find a solution for that, then we'll move onto the next project."

to sharpen this point further, the REAL issue is time. anyone with half a brain knows that a stadium in the city would be better than a stadium in OP in numerous ways. the study confirms it. higher revenue generated offsets costs. they just don’t want to take 5 years building a stadium.

definitely a shame, but what can you do. i guess it’s good motivation to become a billionaire so you can start making these types of decisions instead of outsiders like the pegulas. i for one have already began building my empire. join me

That's shame, especially when you consider the strides downtown Detroit has made since luring the Lions and Pistons back from the suburbs.

PSE should get with the Seneca's The City,County and State and build a huge Casino,hockey arena,football stadium,convention center and shopping district right on prime waterfront property downtown..But nothing that good could ever happen in Buffalo could it??

You have to also look at the stimulative nature of the dollars and long-term infrastructure improvements. Where is the money better spent. If you get infrastructure upgrades in the area to roads, power, etc, those could be much needed investments that aren't happening now and could help the area long-term.

I don't believe WNY has the numbers in the state legislature to get the funding commitment in the state budget for a downtown stadium. They're kind of lucky to have a supportive governor but there's no telling how long that will last. The state budget pits upstate vs downstate interests and that's a contest WNY can't win.
