SSM Greyhounds 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Only my 2nd or 3rd game I got to attend this year but overall wasn't overly impressed by either team last evening. Greyhounds did not seem too urgent for a team fighting for a playoff spot until the last 10 minutes or so...

Martin plays a pro game, his lack of foot speed was noticeable at times but he finds a way to make plays happen. Not sure if thats usual of his game but have seen some criticism of it.

Reid is a gamer, if he is here for 2 more years along with Martin they should have a real shot at hosting next time its around for the OHL.

Really thought they would come back tonight vs Barrie. But a great game by Colts goalie and they continue to challenge to win the East.. Hounds losing their 34th game of the season. Owen Sound lost as well and we remained tied for the last playoff spot, with 7 games remaining.

They did come back but took a couple untimely penalties which cost them at least a point for 2nd game in a row! They definitely deserved to win this game! They need some offence from Allard, Nordh and Cloutier line plus PP to contribute! 0-4 tonight while Barrie was 2-4!

I was thinking the same thing. Allard and Nordh have played themselves off of the 1st powerplay line. Crazy that they are NHL drafted and are struggling more than the other 4 forwards in the top 6. They don’t seem to be finding each other that well out there. Maybe it’s chemistry or too many individual efforts. They don’t sustain pressure as much as they “should” (being they’re NHL drafted). Although it must be really tough for Allard, it’s only his second game back and he has had a rough year being out of the lineup with injuries. Going to miss him next year on draws, he does very well in the faceoff circle, 62% last night.

That’s not to say they didn’t have their chances last night, they had quite a few. Just couldn’t bury. That line is for sure staying together though, you know we’re not splitting up Mignosa-Martin-Hayes. They are dialled in. Imo as always.

lf they play the way their

They really need to try and finish 7th and avoid London! If the Allard line plays to their capabilities and they get some good goaltending I believe they could do it! Can't give points away like they did last 2 games! Two games that they outplayed very good teams and found a way to lose!

next 4 games on the road. Last 2 games at home.
Two of the six games vs Sarnia, critical games, could determine which of the 2 teams
makes the playoffs. In the hunt for final 2 spots sarnia, Soo, owen sound , guelph.

Last 3 games of regular season, and only 1 point separates 7th, 8th and 9th seed.
Hounds have Sudbury, Saginaw and Sarnia left to play. Interesting note is Saginaw has 4th seed locked up and will be home vs Erie in 1st round. Could we see some Spirit older players resting vs Hounds?

Another interesting fact. Our Hounds have a chance (small chance) to finish 6th, and pass Flint. Unlikely but still mathematically possible.

Did some math with my solar calculator, but in a dark room.

Should the Hounds finished tied in points with Owen Sound or Sarnia for the 8th and final playoff spot, we will likely host a sudden death home game on Tuesday March 25. The winner of this game would earn the 8th spot and play the London Knights few days later in Round 1.

Don't have 4th locked up yet. Magic number is 1 point. Could have it locked this afternoon if Guelph beats Erie. Otherwise it will be mathematically up for grabs next week still. Parekh was out last game with an upper body injury and Oke has been out the past few weeks with a concussion. Misa probably plays one more game and rests the weekend.

Ahhh. You are correct Kingpin. I should have noticed that and maybe should have said Saginaw and Erie will be a 1st round matchup. But you are correct. Saginaw has not clinched home ice quite yet. I tell myself to stop using this solar calculator I've had since grade 3. But I can't let old habits go.
