How can Coach Dean start newly signed Tegelaar against one of the best teams in Canada? Dean always talks about the positives of this team but the wins that count are no where to be found. Game in and game out the same end result - a LOSS.
I think a coaching change should be considered by Mr. Lukenda.
The odds are against you, no matter who he would have put in net. Sometime, with someone new behind helps team's concentration to play better. Dean would have look like a genius had his team been able to pull this off

His time is coming to an end..

There are now parents of STAR players agreeing that Dean must be removed in the Soo Greyhound fan club on Facebook…. It’s coming.

There’s always someone that defends Dean.

Go read his comment about the game. “ just couldn’t handle it “ that’s his god damn slogan.

Not properly coached is what that translates to.

There is absolutely nothing the matter with that comment, he's got a young inexperience team to work with, he's a hockey coach, not a miracle worker

He’s hardly a hockey coach anymore. I’m sorry but there’s nothing Dean can do. I’m at the point I don’t wanna pay for seasons if he’s coaching and I HATE to say that.. it’s a lot of money to fork out to watch a brain dead grown man yell and scream from the bench like a baby while his team doesn’t develop. The guys gotta go. Time for change. We are talking about trying to make playoffs and I’m still trying to figure out what style of hockey Dean is trying to coach? I’m still trying to figure out what systems are implemented? I’m still trying to pick up our set plays. You know? Because we have none.

Dean excels at coaching older teams because the players are mature already but when it comes to developing and maturing YOUNG KIDS to becoming elite, he’s a failure. That’s why he double and triple shifts his old players, that’s why he played Lalonde for TEN GAMES straight while Miller rots on the bench.

Hes brutal. I feel like this is 2003 Soo Greyhound all over again.

Just a real bad decision to give a rookie goalie playing his 1st game in the league in front of 9000 fans and the best team in Jr. hockey! Your goal is to try and win every game regardless of the opponent! Dean starting the rookie showed the team he basically had no faith in his team!

Good outing for Miller tonight. I'd like to see him get several consecutive starts in an effort to build his confidence. We've never given him a good run of playing time.

If you take a moment to look at it another way maybe the coach thought starting the rookie would both inflate both his and the teams motivation for the game. But logic does not support that decision. He threw the kid to the wolves and the wolves took advantage. I hope the kid gets another start in a more favourable situation. Nice to see the team rebound with a win.

The kid is a good goaltender that had never played a game in the OHL! If those were Dean's motives he wasn't really fair to the kid. Good performance by Miller now run with him and see what you got! Give him a chance to build some confidence!

He always seems to be okay vs sarnia. It's not sarnia or owen sound that we need saves against. He needs to play like that against the Londons and windsors and kitcheners.

That's been the story, great numbers against the bottom feeders. Hopefully he can figure it out.

Miller has never played enough in big games unless the other goalie was hurt or had a bad game previously! They have mishandled him from the time they drafted him! Detroit saw enough in him to draft him 4th rd!

Miller has been good in all 3 of his outings against London this year, so I'm not sure what that comment is about.

He's made 56 saves on 61 shots against Kitchener for a .918 SV% and got second star in the most recent game against them.

He had a pair of superb 1 goal outings against Windsor this season before that mess after Christmas break. I don't know how much we can glean from that embarrassing game, but he does need to find more consistency.

The false narrative about him not performing against good teams has never been true. General consistency has always been the problem and I believe that it can be alleviated by more consistent playing time.

Crazy week of Hound hockey coming up when the Boys get home this week. Friday vs Guelph (they spanked us last time), Owen Sound on Sunday afternoon. The 4-point games will likely decide if we get to face London 😎. A day break and the makeup game vs NBB. Following night vs Sudbury. 2nights later Steelheads, closing out 5 games in one calendar week!!! I can’t remember a crazier schedule in all my days

Oh please..... hes played almost 30 games and has the worst GAA and second worst SV% in the entire league of full time goalies. Lets call it what it is, he's been poor for an NHL drafted goalie. his last 10 times in the net these are his save percentages:

.967
.917
.750
.860
.893
.826
.857
.912
.829
.690

I count 3 good games 1 semi respctable game and 6 horrendous efforts. I am telling you right now, if the kid in collingwood played well in London friday night it would've been his net until lalonde comes back.

So when does the team in front of him get any blame! They are not exactly a model of consistency as would be expected in a young team! Seems like Shenkel got the same treatment from some Greyhound fans till he became a little more consistent! Win as a team lose as a team should include everyone including the coaching staff!

We're calling a relief appearance where he gave up 1 goal on 7 shots in relief of Lalonde as horrendous? Like 3 of those were breakaways. I like SV%, but not for single games.

Yes, he has been bad. He has also started only 10 of our last 27 games in a stretch where we should be focusing on development. The guy has had several standout performances this year against top-tier teams. It's really obvious that one of the major culprits is the lack of consistent playing time. With all due respect to Lalonde, playing a lame duck OA who hasn't been any better, is hardly a good strategy.

I didn't say the rest didnt deserve some blame- but acting as if he hasnt had a fair shake is not true. hes played in 29 games, will probably end up playing 40. and his stats are quite literally the worst in the league.

I mean we are not exactly discussing a rookie goaltender here.... He is already 19 years old- 3 days from being an 05 and entering his OA season. My point simply is hes played many games and has played very bad (arguably worst in the league) and I guarantee you the greyhounds are looking for a #1 goalie next year.

He hasn't played many games. In 3 years on the Greyhounds, he isn't even close to a full season's worth of games. These guys don't just magically develop without playing time.

I'll bookmark this for when they don't add a #1 goalie in the off-season.

you do that. guaranteed they are scouring the US market looking for an experienced #1 from the USHL. Have you seen improvement year to year for him? I haven't. Plenty of goalies in the league with less career games playing a lot better.

I haven't and I outlined the reasons for that, but you have your mind made up and won't hear anyone else's argument.

We'll see what happens. I think we can both agree that it would be nice to see Miller get some consistent playing time for the first time in his career and for him to string together some good games.

That's where we disagree. I have seen enough this season to tell me he is not the answer moving forward. Fine backup last year on a good team where he's sheltered but the starter on what will be a young up and coming team where he will need to be relied on he isn't good enough.

So you would rather see a Hounds player fail so you can be right than to see them finally get a chance and play well. You're quite a fan.

Miller has been on the exact same development path as most successful goalies. Playing sheltered back-up minutes as a 16 and 17yo and then given the chance to take the reins as an 18yo. He’s been given plenty of opportunity to run with the ball this year and he’s failed. If he can’t show more in the next 15 games (especially with Lalonde out) then yes, the Greyhounds will likely be looking for a goalie this offseason and rightfully so.

He pretty much didn't play at all in his age 16 season (2 games worth of minutes), which is fine, but still not true.

He played backup minutes at age 17 and performed very well. I think the development strategy was on track here.

This year, he's been played as a backup for the entire season. Schenkel started most of the games (rightfully so) and since the trade on January 9th, Miller has only started 6 of the 16 games, during which he has a .883 SV%. I understand that's not a sterling number or anything, but it's right in line with what we see from other goalies on non-contenders. I'm not stating that he's a future elite goalie or anything, but I would like to see him given an opportunity for consistent playing time. He played more minutes last year.
