Did Randy really say the Hounds should have been a 4th or 5th place team in the conference? I don't know anybody that thought that?
That's probably a reasonable guess for a pre-deadline position, had we not experienced an enormous number of injuries, to the point where we couldn't even dress 18 skaters and had guys playing out of position. We went 9-3 in that early-October to November stretch where we were kind of healthy, which was probably the true talent level of the team.

Post-deadline, that was more difficult to predict. We're seeing a lot of ups and downs as the youngsters learn to play OHL hockey.

Raftis needs to find some defensemen with some size and grit.
McConnel-Barker, Holub, Gillen, just don't have the size and grit
to play defense in the OHL. Holub & Gillen being younger maybe will
get a little heavier and tougher to play against but McConnel - Barker
is what you see is what you will get.
Holub hits like a truck. Gillen improving quite a bit every game. I agree about Brodie though, just seems to be a step behind right now.

The answer is no.
Meh. Look at a guy like Mignosa though, really looked lost in his second year. Proceeded to have a huge jump in years 3 and now 4. Hayes looks ALOT better than Mignosa looked in his second year imo.

Lots to be excited about with these 07 guys. With all due respect to Kitchener, nobody can come close to matching the level of talent that we have in that class, particularly on defense. Reid and Charron have been exceptional additions.

I was gonna say I can think of SOMEbody who might’ve predicted that but they beat me to it. Probably would have been tops in the Conference but y’know, all those injuries that none of the other teams have and the crooked refs screw the Greyhounds out of at least 4 or 5 goals every single damn game.

They were like 2 wins away from being in 5th place at the deadline and likely had the most injuries in the league, but somehow that was some kind of far fetched fantasy? Not that it's extremely likely, but the team could still be in 5th place with a good week or two. Standings are close.

I predicted them to come in 6th, for the record, which is essentially where they are.

Realistically how long is Reid in the Soo?
He's already confirmed that he'll be back next year and had good things to say about the team.

“Being around such a great group of guys, from the coaching staff to the players, I couldn’t have asked for a better group to come into,” he said. “The guys here were so welcoming and the coaches have helped me so much. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to be.”

As for his age 19 season, I guess it depends if he's in the NHL or not. Brock Otten says he's already the top defenseman in the OHL for the 2026 draft.

The NCAA route seems highly unlikely at this point. In his age 19 season, we'll be going for or hosting the Memorial Cup, so he'll certainly want to stick around.

Points per game by defensemen:

Sam Dickinson 1.75
Henry Mews 1.34
Zayne Parekh 1.31
Matthew Schaefer 1.29
Luca Marrelli 1.24
Chase Reid 1.23 (youngest player on this list)

i guess i missed Randy's article evaluating our GM's performance.

he's been here longer than Dean (10 years), and the only time the Raftis-led hounds have made it past the 2nd round was with cores built by his predecessor.

Well, you knew they were likely to sell so where teams were before the deadline doesn’t really matter. It’s about predicting where they’re going to finish, not where they were 3 weeks ago. Every team has injuries. Flint finished their last game missing their #1D and all FOUR of their top centers. It happens. They didn’t even do a crazy sell-off and kept a few moveable pieces. Do you still think the team finishes 4th or 5th?
