I really do wonder about that. With the devaluation of the ruble vs USD (essentially halved over the past ~2 years), it may not be all that worthwhile for him to play over there if his goal is to use to eventually live in the U.S.
IIRC they used to pay in USD, but that obviously isn't (can't be) the case any longer. I'm not even sure how a guy like Tony can transfer any money he made there to an account he can access here. Do they pay in bitcoin?

Someone here has to know.

There are still crazy enough GM's in the league to sign TD. Buffalo or Philly inbound?
Philly had him for a year, then waived him for his 2nd buyout in 2022. They wanted to trade him back to Carolina but I guess you can't trade someone back and forth to the same team without retaining salary, hence the buyout, making Tony D the first player to ever be bought out twice.

Telling a coach to F off is normal.

No idea what actually happened but if the above post about the bonuses is correct? I can see that pissing of the other players, coaches and the owner.

Even in Russia. Hockey is a team sport

Don't let the fact that most teammates liked him get in the way of your little story eh.

I guess every guy that has a minor dust up with a teammate is forever branded a "locker room cancer"
A minor dust up or two with teammates is normal. There has to be a reason he gets cut from literally every team he plays for. If he just shut his mouth, had a good attitude, and supported whoever he wanted to support behind the scenes, he would be making millions of dollars in the NHL. There is no doubt he is good enough for the NHL, but not good enough for a team to carry his baggage

If a player is a racist but otherwise a quiet player who is talented and gets along with people, NHL management would have no problem with them on their club.

He is out of hockey because he is a twat, not for his views.

I would argue he's not a talented enough player for teams to ignore his defensive and personality issues.

If they think you're good enough then it still wouldn't keep him out of the league (see: Stan Bowman).

Some of us have been saying that for awhile.
It goes back to what that one NFL exec said years ago. If Hannibal Lector could run a 4.4 at the combine we'd say he had an eating disorder.

If a player is talented enough teams will find ways around their personal faults. Whether it be domestic abuse, drugs/alcohol issues, or bigoted viewpoints.

It's basically like that crazy/hot scale but for athletes involving skill vs non-game negatives.

Not saying the guy you're responding to is right, but TDA is a black hole defensively, and unless you're elite at something else that's hard to justify in today's NHL. Switches and zone defense are too common

I don't agree with the guy, because most people have known someone who is cool 95% of the time, but blows up and is a pain that other 5%, that's can be hard to justify as a friend, it's impossible to justify in a setting where maintaining locker room equilibrium is one of the main jobs of a coach.

It's different on the ice than off. If 2/3 of the players hate him, your locker room is a nightmare. In the front office, the chemistry on the ice isn't affected.
