SSM Greyhounds 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Not a great deal for Schenkel. Pretty disappointing return for an elite goalie and we're stuck with the league's worst goaltender as an OA.

We would have been better off not moving him if this was the only option, but at least Miller gets to play now. I would like to see Lalonde released and Tegelaar signed, as the former is not an OHL calibre player.

I'm not surprised that Allard wasn't moved, as there may have been some external factors involved.

Gotta remove those Soo Goggles.

That’s a great deal for him. Got more than I think most thought you would get for him.

Kingston clearly doesn’t care about picks at the moment.

So 3 disappointments for you so far this deadline?

Honestly I don't think it's that far off fair value - Kingston acquired Lalonde for a 3rd and a 7th (although that may have been an overpay considering he was moved the year prior with a 7th for a 5th).

Total horseshit and you know it. Even the most pessimistic people thought he would get a 2nd round pick. We've seen worse OA goalies get more than this several times.

I think its fair value. I was hoping for more but seems fair. Shenkle was good this year. Above average even, but really he only has one playoff round victory and until his oa year was just a good goalie. Not great.

Market for oas in general isn't that good. If a nhl signed forward went for a 4th and a 6th, there was no way we were getting 2 2nds and 2 3rds for allard like some people wanted.

Would have liked to unload him but I'm fine with him staying and help mentor the younger guys if we would have only gotten 3rds and 4ths.

You want to end some kids ohl career cause you don’t like his stats- maybe if you had some humanity I would. How about this- I’ll just ignore you from now on, then we won’t have hurt feelings or anything like that.
Bad players getting cut is a part of the business. Someone isn't a bad person because they accept that reality. I have never said anything about Lalonde that wasn't about hockey or wasn't true.

Allard is better than Smith, who got a pretty good return, but I think Utah wanted him to stay here. A couple of people in the know hinted at that and I don't think they ever shopped him.

Fischy's predictions seldom happen, and there will be no self-reflection as to why that is. He's not wrong, the universe is.

I think the Schenkle deal is ok. Is it a little low? Perhaps, but at least we got something for him. Hoping for one more trade myself. Keeping our vets will do nothing for us except play us out of a high draft pick, and maybe scrape us into the playoffs to get shitpumped by London or Windsor.

I doubt anyone wanted Allard. Hasnt been that impressive this year either imo, granted he hasn’t been healthy. Every roster looked pretty set with their OA’s. I’m glad we got something for Charlie. 11 picks, an 07 first rounder for 2 players is decent. A little unfinished but I don’t know who else would be coming or going.. Maybe Mignosa?

A point per game and elite defensively? Yeah, not impressive. I don't think he was ever shopped.

I would like to see us look to add a young centre that needs a change of scenery. Not a huge move or anything, but a guy we can give a chance to.

Continuing to play with only 2 natural centres does a disservice to our players and harms the development of guys like Brady R Smith and Carson Andrew when they play out of position.

If you thought you were getting a 2nd for him, I’m going to refer to those Soo Goggles.

They were literally the only team who really needed a goalie that’s a contender.

Not sure how you thought you were getting a 2nd when Kingston had no competition for him.

Sztuska got the Pete’s nothing.
Elliott for a 5th?

Who cares if he is a point per game player and good defensively? If other teams aren't in need of that or are fine with their overages then it doesn't matter? Honestly I wouldn't trade for him either. He's always injured lol.

You can never see anyone else's point of view, always your own lol. It gets tiresome and old.

Not unintelligent or unknowledgeable but In the running for most biased and delusional poster on the OHL forums. No learning from past mistakes, self awareness or reflection as another poster frequently points out. This is from the off season when he was only expecting a 6th out of that bum Charlie Schenkel.

“I'm blown away that giving Miller playing time is such a controversial idea.

He was a second round pick, played really well, and got drafted to the NHL. Greyhounds fans should be absolutely thrilled at the idea of him starting 40+ games.

This is exactly what you want when you use a high pick on a goalie. Instead, a bunch of people want to stunt his development to squeeze an extra 6th round pick or something out of a mediocre OA that ranked 16th out of 20 starters in SV% as a 19 year old. I just don't get it.”

Who cares? That's better than at least half of the team's out there. He was one of the best 20 skaters in Canada last year for God sakes.

I would agree with you if every team had better OA's, but there are some bad ones out there if you look. Teams like Kingston and Brampton might regret their OA decisions come playoff time.

Do you think Flint is happy with Ethan Konyen? I doubt it, he's been awful. One of their fans even came to this forum and said it.

You can't just put on blinders and pretend that I'm wrong because you don't like me. I make mistakes and bad takes like everyone else, but this certainly isn't one of them. He's not the only example. Other teams upgraded their OA's today.

Whatever helps ya sleep Fisch 🫡. So elite, and impressive. Especially when he showed up for training camp.
My mistake. I forgot that you were smarter than all of the coaches in the OHL who selected him in the coaches poll, as well as NHL scouts that drafted him because of his elite defense, as well as the Team Canada execs that also thought the same. What do those guys know anyways? Fans on a message board clearly have superior knowledge.

I don't think I've ever seen our fans absolutely f***ing hate a player as much as Allard. The league's hardest worker should be a fan favourite by all accounts. I just don't get it at all. The guy is awesome and just gets shit on by everyone.

Dude watch your heart you still got a decent package for him. Schenkel is good but he’s not Carter George

An extra 6th round pick is far different than expecting a 6th round pick. That was very clear in my statement, you just chose to intentionally misinterpret it to make a point.

I was wrong about his skill level coming into this season. I didn't see such a vast improvement coming from Charlie, but I do stand by my point that Miller would be a lot better right now had he received consistent playing time. It's not clear that we gained more picks in a trade by waiting, given this extraordinarily weak return.
