Barrie and Oshawa are going to be hard to beat even if we made a trade that included Hopkins. Picks are picks are picks, we can compete with players we can’t do jack with picks.I think Kingston overpaid, but that's what happens if you're trying to make a splash AND hold onto top prospects.
The inclusion of Hopkins would have opened up doors to bringing in elite talent, but holding onto him without another highly touted prospect to offer in any deals means they had to overpay in picks.
IMO there should be no untouchables if you're going all in. This deal might get them into the 2nd or 3rd round, but is a whole lot of picks to sacrifice without getting a game breaking talent in return. My 2 cents.
True, and I'll eat my words if it happens, but I'd rather the picks in that instance. I'm not sure you can compete with those players you just got. Man, for the amount of picks you spent, you could have gotten 2 elite talents. Just my opinion thoBarrie and Oshawa are going to be hard to beat even if we made a trade that included Hopkins. I think if they could've they would've, I can't imagine they wouldn't have checked in on he Gibson's or Pinellis of the league. It seems like teams wanted impact young players over quantity of picks and since Kingston blew their first rounder, they had none to move.True, and I'll eat my words if it happens, but I'd rather the picks in that instance. I understand the whole "have to give value to get value" but the thing with Hopkins, is that they would have to replace him at 2C.I think Kingston overpaid, but that's what happens if you're trying to make a splash AND hold onto top prospects.

Who is out there to upgrade him with aside from Luchanko? Allard would possibly work but then they'd have to pick an OA to move, and then replace that OAs spot in the lineup. I can't think of any other Cs I've seen brought up in trade talks, but I could be missing someone.I'd argue that a team going into the playoffs with a 17 year old 2C probably isn't going the distance, and needs to be replaced or upgraded. Unless the kids name is McJesus, McKenna or McBedard...
I don’t recall a lot of hounds fans saying trade Martin for a chance to get beyond round two at the previous deadline.
Kitchener is doing pretty well with 17 year old Romano centering the 2nd line. Ellinas is 18 years old and 1st line. Our 3rd and 4th centers are not too good….play good defensively but offer very little offensively
If I thought we were a bonafide contender last year I would have helped Martin pack myself.
If Kitchener wins a cup this year I'll stand corrected
They added the big fish without Martin. If the choice was dealing him or trading 8 picks and a player for a 4th line centre and depth defenseman then people may have felt differently.Kingston gave up nothing of importance other than a 2nd pick in ‘25.
Hopkins is familiar with the team system, contributing now and improving.

After this year our next contending year would probably be 2026-27 or 2027-28That's fair. But if you don't think you can contend for a cup, and want to build around Hopkins, then why waste so many picks and ship out young players ?
Fair example! Is having to go back over 20 years for an example making the point you want it to?
If Hopkins was being moved he would have been a Soo Greyhound and Kingston would have Gibson.
Maybe next year…
There are still 2 days left.Where is the flurry of trades now that Gibson is gone. What's the hold up now?
It was quite unusual to see a picks trade at this point in time. I agree in principle, but there's always a big flurry of those deals right before the draft. Raftis should be focused on other moves right now, at least in my opinion.with the excess of 4ths now, we should think about making the same trade that saginaw did with north bay.
send guelph a 2028 2nd and 2027 4th for a 2025 2nd. they have 3 picks in the 2nd this year and that seems a bit of a waste.
thinking ahead, if it's a decent 09 we get in the 2nd this year, he may have some value to flip the following year at the deadline for an impact player.
i know that sometimes teams value players instead of picks....may be a good scenario
