I guess the best we can hope for is something like Smith + 2,2,3,3,4,4.

That's a little disappointing after hearing that both Smith and Griffin were originally included, but it would be a touch more than the Allen deal, so not too bad.

If it's much less than that then I won't be pleased at all with Raftis for sticking with Oshawa and not moving on to another team.

another poster on oshawa board saying they are looking for a top 6 forward as well...which may mean no picks (or not many) involved as they only have 2-2nd and 2-3rds left...hopefully we get at least a 2nd as well coming back. be a shame that we give up a world class player for 1 player and a pick.

would have loved to see griffin here as well but at least we are selling for once.
I'm guessing it will be for more than 1 pick. The Gens will probably try and use Griffin in another deal for a forward.

I can't see Raftis agreeing to swap out Griffin for a single pick, but I guess we'll see in the coming hours.

if that's true that'd suck...he would be slotting in with arguably one of, if not the best 07 group (with Kitchener IMO), and be loaded up for a run in 2027, playing a big part. if he accepts a deal to a lesser team, that would be crazy.

in my opinion anyway. but to each their own.

There's still a lot of ignorant players and parents who think Northern Ontario is a bad place to play. I had a few good chats with Andy Frost about that. If he goes elsewhere, we'll know that group includes the Griffins.

We've had better luck due to our success at churning out NHL players, but Sudbury has really struggled at times with that outdated perception.

IT's a shame. The guys that I've known to have played there, including a very close friend of mine drafted by Quebec in the early 90's absolutely loved the Soo. One of my beer leaguer buddies has a son who played 3 years in Sudbury and 1 year in Guelph and raved about the Wolves fans, and the community.

A lot of ‘07s in the west, similar to ‘06s in the east. Flint, Guelph, Kitchener, SSM, and maybe OS and Sarnia looking good for ‘27.

In Sudbury, the issue was more about the organization than anything else. Not really an issue anymore. Except for the distance driven, parents and players love the Northern experience.

Brady smith goalie in the WHL too lol

If you want your kid to make it to the chl name your kid Brady smith I guess?
Sudbury 6th round pick this year is also Brady Smith (who is from Oshawa, oddly enough).

The trade is disappointing after knowing that we could have had both Griffin and Smith and knowing that we got less than Guelph did for Allen.

That being said, I would have probably been happy with this deal at the start of the season and I'm looking forward to having another Brady Smith on the roster. Poor Gerry!

I'm also looking forward to not hearing from whiny fans complaining that we never sell, at least hopefully.

Brady smith is way better than jenken imo and younger. At the time of the draft I believe there was some talk of him going top 5. Was shocked when he fell to 18 and PISSED when cooper passed on him to take malholtra.

Only thing I’m surprised about is only 1 second and 1 3rd.

Soo probably figured more draft picks would be the way to go though and they have 9 4ths over the next 4 years now. Something tells me they may not be done yet and could be looking for max value for Mignosa to get that 2025 2nd they are lacking and maybe a 2025/2027 5th rounder

I like Smith a ton, but losing out on Griffin in place of 2 high picks and a bunch of lower ones is really disappointing. We really should have gotten 2 more high picks once the NTC didn't go through, but our leverage obviously cratered and Raftis didn't want to look elsewhere.

Our RW depth is ridiculous now, to the point that it is problematic. If Allard is dealt and Martin remains hurt, then Tate Vader will be the only centre on the entire roster. Hopefully they can address this like you said.

You still have Mignosa. He will be flipped for picks and you’ll be in better shape because of it. Allard would return some good picks too. If you just sold those 3 and held on to everyone else you’d be in great shape moving forward.

Would be a pretty good bet that they find a darn good centre in the draft, maybe 1 through the import draft as well, then a potential trade? That would give you 4 reliable ones when you’re competitive.

Look for 2 year good centres that would be 07 or 08’s in Finland/sweden/czechia, points if they have family that have played in North America. Would make sense doing something like that rather than what Windsor did this year with Protas who I’m sure will not be back next year and they’ll have to find someone new

I remember a time that people cried when Saginaw got host (me included) because Saginaw was ahead of the game and stockpiled picks for the cup year….

Now the Soo does this plan and it’s horrendous.

It’s always the same accounts who come here to say negative things too

Good start Raftis. Maybe a touch light on the picks return, one more high pick would have been good, but I still give an 8 or 9 out of 10 on that deal. Got a good young player back which was the crucial part.
But the job is not done yet.
Now move out two more vets.

Like joe said in another post somewhere, they could have a gentlemen agreement for the future
