yes Mignosa will be sought after at the trade deadline, but he would also be
an ideal overage candidate for next season along with justin cloutier.
My thoughts exactly. He and cloutier may be the top 2 in the league. At least in the conversation for top 5.

I don't know if it makes a lot of sense for a player to leave for NCAA in their OA season when they've already got a Canadian education package in their back pocket.

A guy like Mignosa could finish up his career in the O, give it a shot at the AHL/ECHL level and always has the education to fall back on. That gives him a lot more flexibility, a better path to the NHL, and a better quality education than the NCAA route.

depending on the conference, a player not quite ready for the AHL could play at a higher level than the OHL while continuing their education

It seems like an odd career path to play 1 year of NCAA hockey and then go to the AHL.

I guess maybe we'll see some weird things with these new rules, but I expect most players to continue to choose a path and stick with it, rather than switching back and forth.

I would hope Cloutier and Mignosa return for an OA year but who knows. Either way, I’m assuming contending window needs to open next year? There’s a chance of Martin not returning in his 19 year old year. Mignosa and Cloutier would be essential to contend next year. But if they are going NCAA, it makes sense to deal them at the deadline this year. A lot of things to consider, excited to see how it plays out. Also anyone else feel like Gibson looks a little checked out? Maybe eager to join a contender.

Can we get a confirmation on when the OA limit is? When do teams need to be down to 3?

Reason I’m asking is Justin DeZoete has been released and apparently it has something to do with the OA limit.. but I’m getting mixed signals, isn’t the OA limit in January to go from 4 to 3?

I thought mid November to be down to 3...deadlinento trade was day before actual deadline...that's what I thought anyway

Most people on X are saying after WJC around or at the same time as the OA deadline.
My understanding is the November date is to cut from 5 to 4. The trade deadline is to cut from 4 to 3. I would suspect in Soo's case, they cut from 5 to 4, maintaining the rights to someone not currently on the roster with 3 OAs active on the current roster. Could be a case of smart asset management in the event they get a gift player return before the deadline.

Maybe they have BMB rights?

Or Karki? I think he was sent down from Liiga after a slow start?
