The Soo
I'm on the ice/bench often and there are all kinds of chirps and taunts. Most are harmless (some are even hilarious) and I would agree are part of any organized sport. But I would suggest that any reference to religion, ethnicity/race, sexual orientation etc should be suspendable. If there's any evidence that officials are hearing other examples and not calling it out or other examples where the punishment was far less then i'm all ears. as Fischy said, this is also a repeat offender and was punished as such.

personally i was hoping the new management of the CHL/OHL was going to crack down on this kind of BS. i love this game so much but as far as it has come, not a month passes where there isn't an incident that contributes to the games toxic reputation. if hockey really is for everybody then the game needs to act like it because too often it presents itself as a classist, racist, sexist and homophobic old boys club with zero accountability.

i would agree that punishment for headshots and dangerous plays should be more severe, especially in the context of a repeat offender, but also believe that its not necessary to conflate these two issues, and dangerous plays warrants it's own discussion/debate. whataboutism doesn't serve the best interest of either debate imo.

Hache " I am going to kill you and seperate your other shoulder this time "
Sim " You can't you are a p***y "

One guy gets 5 games, the other gets nothing. I believe that is your evidence of officials picking and choosing. Officials on the ice heard both players say what was in quotes as that is what was in the report. I can go to jail for a death threat on the streets but apparently that is ok to say as long as you are in skates and on ice?

I am not saying what Sim has done is right, I am just saying it seems to be a one way street.

i agree with everything you said, and while i'm not excusing it, the OHL/CHL and even the NHL seem to lack any consistency in the application of supplemental discipline. it's not hard to produce an example of nearly identical cheapshots with totally different punishments (or lack of), so it's not hard to expect the same with this. again, not excusing it, just recognizing how flawed and confusing the system is.

It’s unacceptable but what’s even more disgusting is seeing grown adults trying to justify it based off their personal opinion. Take a few steps back and just think about the kid and his family for once.

London Free Press may as well come out and say “ we stand with Sims comments”

Haha agreed, and you guys got the short end of the stick on that as well. I wanted a London/Sault Conference final so bad. I actually thought the Sault had a solid chance of beating London with their size and speed last year!

Soo won in game 6. OHL officials even admitted it. :D:laugh:

There’s a reason why these guys are in the OHL and not NHL.

And I’m talking about the referees and linesmen. The facts are the facts. If you’ve been a ref for 20 years in the OHL and never get a job in the NHL. Chances are you’re missing a lot of stuff and it wouldn’t fly at the NHL level and that’s why you don’t get that chance to go pro doing that.

This one is not as cut and dry as you think. There are many officials that have really good day jobs and have no interest in moving up or away from their families so they are content to basically "volunteer" at this level or lower levels. Be safe.

I think pretty much every single one of them has a day job.
A buddy i grew up with (Anthony Tapper) reffed in the AHL for several years and then the OHL for 2 years and gave it up last year as he is able to make way more money as a concussion doctor from the free schooling he received from his OHL tenure then he ever could reffing in the Ahl and Ohl.
It's not all that of a glorious job that people may think it is officiating JR hockey.

There are certainly a few folks that are in the category Fronts fan is talking about....but I can name a few that are in the same boat OHL is talking about as well.

I think it is a good mix, but usually the better ones certainly get fast tracked if they are good enough and willing. They are always looking for solid bodies at the next level.

I often wonder how Ferguson is still employed.
Kimmerly i have seen have some brutal games as well.
Most of the games are offiated pretty well when you watch them from a neutral perspective i find.

haha you picked the exact same name I had on the top of my head, glad we are on the same page.

Faist is hit or miss, but usually calls a pretty good game.
Kimmerly is meh neither good nor bad
Neely is getting better starting to establish himself as one of the better ones IMO
Monette - 50/50 depends what mood he is in. Either lets everything go or calls every small thing.
Reid - same as Faist usually calls a good game.
Nichol - Usually a good game
Burchell/Ferguson/Hutchison - You know you are in for an awfully awful officiated game both ways.

I really actually like the female ref Brennan, she calls it by the book and it is extremely refreshing!

Just some off the top of my head

Watch a lot of games that don't include my favorite team so you get a better feel for the officials this way. Not why I watch but it does put context to what you should expect. And I agree Brennan is getting better with more experience. I'm not a fan of Burchell or Ferguson.
Anyway enough of this for me, be safe.

Makes sense that is a great way to do it. You get to take off the Rose colored glasses and then a spade turns into a spade. Although I think most nights no matter what just by seeing the name on the back you already know what each team is in for. Some officials seem to be scared of the London bench and London gets the favourable calls. Some guys do their best to give the visiting team the favourable calls and some nights it is a perfectly or close to perfect game both ways. You usually have a pretty good idea once you see who is skating around.

Back to the Greyhounds talk! Sorry for the interruption.
