thing is (outside of a long-term injury) no one really wants Parsons or Schenkel enough to pay. The hounds are not in the driver's seat. The hounds want to move Gibson. Kingston wants Gibson or Collins or Allen or McCoy or Mews or ...
Gibson is the better player here though. If Kingston doesn't get him that means another team competing with them will. Sometimes that comes into play as well. I think the most recent comparable may be the Del Mastro trade maybe? Martone and a 2nd for Del Mastro I believe was the return. If Kingston really wants Gibson, they have the ability to trump most deals if they move Hopkins. I just don't see anyone else of value that gets it done for them. Maybe an all picks deal, but that doesn't leave them much more to upgrade elsewhere. If the Hounds go with a straight picks deal there are teams that have more available (Brampton, Brantford) off the top of my head. I still think there is a deal to be made with Kingston, but it might not be for Gibson. There are other teams with players that just make more sense unless a bigger deal takes place like you said.

You can't possibly expect anyone to believe that you know what teams want or do not want.

Not you, but most others at a glance would see that Kingston has two #1 LD and two #4-5 RD.
As far as upgrading OA goalies go; if you're that concerned about one more goal in 50+ shots, add a couple of monster defenders to the wings of the middle six and the best D remaining (disposable assets) allow.

Using Hopkins in trade takes away from the value of adding Gibson and ability to re-tool later; how can that be ignored?
Even though DelMastro made the Sting the team to beat, they were beat. And it was a wow, eyebrow raising deal because the prospect price paid had only been seen once before.

I am not disagreeing with you. Kingston is a little bit handcuffed in their ability to trade for high end players because of their lack of younger players with value. I don't see them being that dangerous in the playoffs with Hopkins as a 2C, Lalonde as their starter and having a weak right side on D. Picks only trades will help them fill a couple holes sure, but the other teams are going to add too. Tough spot.

a better (team) than most believe imo. A couple of players with the skillset to improve the middle of the roster would probably be of more benefit than adding an all-star at the expense of any roster player. I'm not even convinced they should risk upgrading Heyes.

I agree. That may be the best course of action for them. Gibson to a team like Oshawa makes a lot of sense.

stars and scrubs :) when the deadline passes, the gens could have two full lines that could play with anyone for 50 minutes though

Your really condescending tone makes the fact that you don't know which side Gibson plays one of the funniest things I have ever read on this forum.

I'm sure others will enjoy this too. Thanks for the laugh.

you're not getting gibson without a top prospect and a boatload of high picks. whether or not you think that is "absurd" is irrelevant, someone is going to pay it.
What players have gone for a boatload of picks AND a top prospect? Looking back through the trade DB the closest that fits a top prospect and "boatload" is probably the McTavish trade which was 2 2's and 3 3's on top of Melee and Pharand. Hopkins' value is probably more than both players combined, and I'd say McTavish is a more impactful player than Gibson.

The thing with Hopkins is that he's not just a prospect - he's a contributing player on a solid team - calling him just a prospect is completely disregarding what he brings NOW - which is so much more than a 16 year old would bring. If this conversation was around the hypothetical world that Malhotra reported, then I'd absolutely agree Malhotra plus a couple 2s/3s - but Hopkins is a likely mid round NHL pick (I've seen him anywhere between mid 2nd to 5th), and he has a track record of contributing - meaning there's signficantly less risk than with a 16 year old that only has half an OHL season.

For Kingston, it would be on the right side; and I'm guessing that Gibson will try to earn a spot on the right side of the Canadian juniors defence.

I'm glad you realize that now. He's a natural fit next to Pieniniemi on Kingston. That makes his value higher to Kingston, not lower as you suggested earlier because they 'already have 2 #1 LD'.
