Enjoy it while it lasts. With Reid on the trajectory he is I suspect he'll be the top defenseman in the league at 18 in two years. And my opinion doesn't change if guys like Parekh and Dickinson are still around at 19.
You could be right. I've only seen him 3 or 4 times and he's been absolutely torched on defense, but that's not uncommon for a rookie. It's more a problem of roster construction, where he has had to face top 6 guys that are much bigger and stronger.

When most games combine for 8+ goals everyone gets torched on defense. The rookie has a lot to learn but he has definitely been impressive thus far and looks like he should’ve been taken behind Martin in the draft

Fantino has been playing his best hockey recently. He has been a lowkey good depth player on this team. Whether or not he finds himself in the starting 12 come playoffs, Dean knows he has an option there that he can rely on. This team is ridiculously deep on F.
I know it was already stated but since the trade deadline, both Fantino and Brown, two guys I know many of us thought would be traded, have stepped up their game alot since and as weird as it is to say, the trade for DeZoete was beneficial for them and their play, especially Brown I think

I’ll play devils advocate here…could you imagine how much better this team would be with Kostov and Clattenburg over Brown and Fantino lol not to take away from your point that yes, both have been playing great.

While I agree in part, I think clattenburgs role has greatly improved over in flint. I'm hesitant to think he would be getting the same opportunities here. He's on the first line there. Playing with peer and slavicek. No chance he gets that opportunity here.

Kostov doesn't seem to have found his niche there yet but is only 17, so there's time. I like what brown has been doing the last 3 weeks or so. I think moving forward and the next few years he will be very good for this team.

I am ok with these forwards. Happy that Clattenburg is finding success. But I would much rather have our 06s than Clattenburg. They are producing well in the role we have for them today, and also fit much better in our next window.

I was sad to see Kostov go, but I'm still not sure he is ever a legit top 6 forward in this league. Brown has the skills to be, and based on his recent play he is on that trajectory.

I think Raftis nailed this deadline.

Kostov was clicking was with Martin and Hayes before he was traded, it could be argued that Dezoete has filled that role but going back to my other comment he has been playing well with Brown lately

Just T Hayes still injured?

EDIT: yes, Brodie and Vader listed as healthy scratches. Happy to see Vader is healthy. Could have been much worse.

i can't understand why we keep struggling vs. bottom feeders. we're chasing saginaw in the standings with a handful of games remaining... what more motivation do they need to show up on a consistent basis?

is there a dreaded 2nd round exit on the horizon for this team or can they get their 💩 together?

I think it's the nature of junior hockey. London and Saginaw have had their share of inconsistency as well. Perhaps they have done a better job of overcoming periods of inconsistency by still recording wins, but to be fair the Soo still has the longest running active point streak in the league (7-0-1-1).

I think the coaches just need to keep coaching. Last night's issues didn't seem to be related to effort, at least to me. But the forwards did not seem to be in sync with each other. I lost track of the number of times a pass was put into space for a linemate only for the linemate to change direction at the same instant and the pass went to no-one. Passes in feet, passes out of reach. Just a really out of sync effort. Maybe Flint's defensive structure was giving the Hounds trouble. Not exactly sure. Credit to Miller for steadying the ship when he came in. That's huge for this team. And credit to the Hounds for staying with it and grinding out a point. Getting the game past regulation was an important result. I don't put much stock in what happens past regulation in the regular season. We lost the coin flip last night. Oh well.

There is probably nothing that can happen in the last few regular season games and the first playoff round that will make me think this team is a prohibitive favourite in any second round matchup. But I also don't think there is anything that can happen to make me think this team is a big underdog in the same matchup. I think they have just as much chance as any other team right now. Might mean a second round exit, or it might mean a trip to the conference finals.

getting past the 2nd round is a pretty low bar to achieve in an "all-in" season imo, and a 2nd round exit is precisely the fear/prediction many of us (including you) expressed back in september.

the only good part of a 2nd round exit would be the homers going silent for a few months like they do every year.

If no upsets in the 2nd round, there will be 2 teams eliminated in the 2nd round that could be defined as an upset. I really hope it's not us. The teams ranking 5-8 in the west are too close to even gather a guess on our 1st round opponent. We are more than likely playing Saginaw or London 2nd round should the 1st three seeds advance in the 1st round. That means 1 of these 3 teams will have an early exit from the playoffs. Again, hope it's not us. We can beat any team this year.

i just don't see how a 2nd round exit isn't an abject failure for an all-in year, especially if a loss comes to London, who didn't even go "all-in".

just my couple of pennies.

2017-2018 we very nearly exited in the 2nd round. Owen Sound gave us all we handle, outscored us significantly in the series and pushed us to a 9-7 game 7 scoreline. That is a Greyhounds team that was good enough to win it all IMO, even though we fell to Hamilton in 6 in the finals.

There are different ways to lose in the 2nd round. Just making the 2nd round is not the goal. Competing is.

London can build a contender without going all in. It is what it is. I'd love the opportunity to knock them out in the 2nd round.
