Prospects tracker: SSM Greyhounds 2022-23 Season Thread
Assuming the greyhounds don't flip their 2nd in this coming draft for future 2nds (doubt they will since it will be a relatively high 2nd), Soo will have 4 2nds and 3 3rds to try to move at next years deadline to make a run according to the draft pick database. Any big move could potenially have to include this years first and some other young players. For a team wanting to make a run next season, I thought they would have set themselves up betterOof. An ugly few days of hockey. Anybody that looks at this squad and sees a contender next season should lay off huffing their own farts. This is a team full of 3rd liners.
When the dust settles don't forget this was the Raftis/Lukenda vision even though John Dean is probably going to be the one that loses his job.
Also don't forget the fans who spent the last 4 seasons blindly pumping Raftis' tires. Many of you were more than happy to forego a proper rebuild to be "perpetually competitive" or whatever B.S. the organization was peddling. Now we wasted 4 years being mediocre, ended up at the bottom of the standings anyways, and chose this as our time to bid on a memorial cup? What a S***SHOW!
This is more or less as full as the cupboards have ever looked the last ~5 seasons. When you don't sell off after a run, this is what you get.For a team wanting to make a run next season, I thought they would have set themselves up better
Don't get me wrong, I admire the winning every year mentality/ strategy but eventually that wears off and the most you can realistically get is mid to fringe quality teams. There is definitely assets to move for next year, hut just how much time will tellThis is more or less as full as the cupboards have ever looked the last ~5 seasons. Not nearly enoughThere is definitely assets to move for next year, hut just how much time will tell
'07 1st and '06 1st if they are really serious but that doesn't fit their strategyNot nearly enough
Actually, they have dealt first round selections multiple times recently. Liam Hawel and Hayden Fowler were both traded in their 16 year old seasons in an attempt to load up. Neither were anywhere near top 4 overalls mind you which is where we will be picking this year. Jacob Holmes was also dealt in his 18 year old season in an attempt to load up. The problem hasn't necessarily been loading up, it's been the restocking of the cupboards.'07 1st and '06 1st if they are really serious but that doesn't fit their strategy
If they end up getting the hosting rights for the mem cup your fears will come true.My fear at this point is that Raftis empties the cupboards next season just to save face. The lasting damage from that kind of desperation could relegate us to the bottom of the standings for years to come.
Good breakdown. Thanks!you need to find players to build your team around to have a strong 2024 year going forward :
for the hounds i see :
1.bryce mCconnel Barker
2. charlie schenkel
3. andrew gibson
4. krill kudraysav
5. owen allard
6. mathew virgilio
7. landon miller
core players next season.
Jury still out on :
clouthier, fantino, brown, carlisle, mignosa ? now up to 12 players
3rd line production should be expected from :
clattenberg, kostov, montroy ( now up to 15) players
top 2 draft pick should be a top 6 player next season
another import pick should also be a top nine forward or top 4 defensemen.
now we sit at 17 players.
2 overage players : d'intino & serozotti ( now up to 19 players )
Might make for an interesting off-season of who chooses to report if we get the rights...jury is still out on a few top names that may make their way to town (plus any potential free agents) if the prospect of a memorial cup is possibleKeep in mind we probably only have enough assets to plug 3 holes in the roster (and that's by completely emptying the cupboards).
It's a long shot but Rutger McGroarty reporting plus an elite import is possibly our only chance at being a bonafide contender.Might make for an interesting off-season of who chooses to report if we get the rights...jury is still out on a few top names that may make their way to town (plus any potential free agents) if the prospect of a memorial cup is possible
Brown is still young which is tough to say on the worst team in the league. Carlisle seems to be better and looks more confident with the puck and skates well. Also plays well defensively. Also producing more points this year than last year. Mignosa has been playing much better and looks like he’s flying now. On pace for only 11 points behind BMB’s first year with 49 on one of the highest scoring teams in the league. Cloutier yet to find his touch which is questionable now.you need to find players to build your team around to have a strong 2024 year going forward :

How is Julian Fantino doing ?
The bright side of having a down year right before potentially loading up for a run is.. the Import Draft. Hounds have had success before, we should have a high import selection coming. Use some as$ets and find a good one to report. If we by some miracle get to host, then sell the farm. Hounds have enough local support they will survive. The beauty of not being able to trade 1st round picks in the OHL is you can can never go completely bankrupt.
Isn't Dean in the last year of his contract? That could make the offseason a bit more interesting too. Assuming he makes it to the end of the season. Some high draft picks make things a little exciting for the offseason. We have plenty of hard working kids in the system but we need some elite talent.
