As long as the Hounds keep them on their protected list. Otherwise I believe they would become free agents.
Good point. They were always drafted knowing they wouldn't immediately report, but hoping they might at a later point.

Anyone know how many players a club can protect? I know they get 30 "A" cards per season, but I want to say the protected list can be up to 50 players. Anyone else weigh in?

From what I’ve read, Kalvyn had a decent year for the Muskies.
What are the thoughts on guys like Mufarreh or Dickinson??

Mufarreh - It's hard not to like his game. I expect him to make the team.
Dickinson - I can't imagine him signing without some kind of guarantee of ice time.

We have 16 forwards already signed for this season, with space for no more than 15 (or maybe only 14). Obviously something has to give, yet I believe Watson, Mufarreh, Dickinson will all occupy a roster spot come September. Training camp will be very interesting.

Hayton will likely get his 9 games with Arizona (at a minimum). Arizona's 10th regular season game is scheduled for October 25. That is our timeframe for determining where Hayton will play this season. Much will depend on this.

Hayton might actually get stretched out a bit - plays a game, sits out a couple kinda thing. It is 10 games played by him not the team so it could drag longer, which would be a bummer for you guys.

I believe that happened with Pietrangelo years ago. I may be wrong but that 10 games took him all the way the the December WJC camp.

And also, the Blues wouldn't send him back unless he was traded to a contender.

Hayton may find himself in the same boat. Arizona sends him back with the promise of a deal to a contender.

What kind of contender? I don't think it should surprise anyone if the Hounds lead their division at the deadline.

The Hounds are a proven organization for development. I doubt any team would ever demand a player be traded from our team.

You're right a bit.

If we see Hayton it would be closer to trade deadline/wjc time.

What's the story on Finn Brown? He had a great year in the OJHL

Hounds really seem to be capitalizing on their later round picks. Great scouting

Yes, he did. Another player in a similar boat is Tyson Tomasini. I would love to see these guys on our roster this season, but there are only so many spots available. They may end up as victims of the Greyhound's scouting success.

I really hope that Raftis is looking at these guys, and is willing to do what it takes to give them an opportunity in the OHL, even if it means with another team.

Well now... I read this article and can’t help but get the feeling that Turcotte is speaking the truth - most likely (like it states in the article) because he was told his NCAA decision was good with the King’s upper management. However, Caufield’s response comes off as more aloof. Potentially, in an attempt to continue sayin the right thing to the right people. It just strikes me as a different vibe from the quotes that Turcotte provided. Possibly because even though Caufield may want to be in Wisconsin if he is left to his own devices, he may have been told otherwise by the Canadiens if he were to still hold their interest for a potential immediate relationship.

Anyone else get the same feeling from his quotes?

I definitely get a read that Caufield has not finalized his decision. I have pulled the Caufield quotes from that article and posted them below. Certainly a stark contrast to quotes from Turcotte ["I think coming here is the best decision for me, and I'm really excited and happy about it."] and Holloway ["I knew I wasn't going to go that route. I knew I was coming here either way."]

Interesting times.
Caufield was noncommittal on his future in interviews during Montreal's camp but said last week that he "couldn't be in a better spot" than with the Badgers.
"For me this year, you just kind of take it day by day," he said. "Right now, I want to be here."
Would he entertain that possibility [of becoming ineligible for NCAA and attending Canadiens Camp] if the NHL team presents it?
"I'd obviously have to think about it," Caufield said. "It's a cool opportunity, and if they want you, you've kind of got to take a look at it.

I got this exact feeling.

The feeling is Granato is grasping at straws.

This quote shows it "What we're offering them, I don't think there's another place that would be able to match what the full package does at our school," Granato said. "Whether that's arrogant or cocky or whatever, it doesn't matter. That's the way I feel."

100% false. OHL GOLD PACKAGE covers it all.

Wonder if the Greyhounds have an OHL Gold package available to offer? Usually just for first round picks, no?

I don't think so. That's why Ryan Roth wasn't moved. Bad business ...... I could be wrong but, I don't think so.

Edit: Ya so it's for anyone they wanna use it on, full year paid for each year in the league. I also don't know if we used one on Roth but I am assuming we did from info I got. Gabe Guertler is a good example he had one they used full package to pull him from.NCAA, and now using it a PEI UNI

If the Canadiens want Caufield to participate in their preseason camp, the high-scoring right wing would have to back out of his plans to play for the Badgers. Would he entertain that possibility if the NHL team presents it?

This is what makes my cautiously optimistic the Caufield may report to the Soo. If the habs want to give him a good look at training camp this year, he will lose his NCAA eligibility and won't be able to play for the Badgers. As a habs fan myself, I look at how Bergevin has handled rookies. Galchenyuk got a spot right off the bat. Kotkaniemi last year as well, 18 year old right off the bat on a roster spot. Bergevin is not afraid of using youth and that's how they are trying to build, with youth through the draft. If the habs want to take a good long look at him this September, and if Cole wants to take the quickest path to the NHL and participate in the training camp, then he falls to us. I think that's exactly why he is being aloof about his plans. As it stands now, he will play for Wisconsin, but I know that if the habs want to take a look at him, get him in some preseason games, maybe even a few regular season games, then I really do believe he will forgo the NCAA.

Habs camp will tell the tale.

If he's there that's big, if he stays past 48 hours that's HUGE.

To add to my gold package stuff, first rounders AUTOMATICALLY get gold package.

Everyone else is able to get it if they wanna use it to pull them.

its only big if hes not paying his way. you can pay your own way and stay for as long as you like, 48 hour rule is void

'CAN I STAY AT A CHL ROOKIE/TRAINING CAMP LONGER THAN 48 HOURS?
Yes, provided you cover the cost of all expenses incurred, including cost for the return trip home, following the initial 48-hour time period. The most common expenses incurred, beyond travel, would be food and lodging.'
