I don’t know, still not getting really excited for the season. I am just cautiously optimistic that things will work out and we’re going to be really good. Just not overly pumped.
I think the majority of us are lukewarm to the Jays chances. While the team could be fine, that was not the kind of offseason that should have happened after last year (parts of which which were caused by a mediocre offseason two years ago).

It sucks, since we are supposed to be in the championship window. But maybe it’s good for these guys to be doubted. Hopefully they will play with a chip on their shoulders trying to prove the doubters wrong. I’d love for them to prove everyone wrong and have a great season. Maybe Vladdy can get mad and start murdering baseballs again

Vogelbach is for sure a better looking option moving forward, but Votto is certainly an interesting case health permitting. His last two years weren’t very large samples, and he had a major shoulder surgery that impacted both seasons (delayed start in 2023).

Does he get back to at least somewhere between his 2020/2021 numbers? Probably not. But him not being a liability against lefties probably sways the decision a bit. As does his athleticism even though he isn’t fast by any means.

Bottom > Vogelbach. Don't care about stats, age, charts, blah blah. I want to go to the SKYDOME and see him in a Jays uniform before he's gone. If anything his character and experience are more valuable than what Vogelbach can provide.

I expect next to nothing from Votto, but I'm still pretty excited about this. Maybe he'll be a good mentor for the young players on the team, maybe he'll bounce back and be a relatively productive part-time bat... I have no idea. But he's a Canadian baseball legend and I love the idea of seeing him in a Jays uniform.

Always thought Votto would sign with the Leafs at end of his career.
I hate to have to disappoint you but Votto is not playing hockey :(

I'd like at least one young player making the team. If the 3rd base and 2nd base are two or Kiner-Falefa, Espinal and Biggion it's going to be a disappointment (and likely a long season offensively) even though i'm somewhat expecting it.

Ehh, Votto is full of shit. If he really wanted to play for the Blue Jays, there were opportunities in the past.

Well it was a joke because star players "coming home" at the tailend of their career is a classic Leafs trope.

You do realize that Joey Votto signed exactly one contract where he had a choice (which was in 2012 and bought out two arb years). He would have had to go through arbitration twice then become a FA in 2014.

Votto tells C. Trent Rosecrans and Kaitlyn McGrath of the Athletic that while he’ll report to Jays camp on Saturday, he expects to open the season at Triple-A Buffalo. That suggests he’s not planning to exercise the first of the opt-out dates provided by the CBA.

I like the signing more now. Let him prove himself because Vogelbach should get the last bench spot with his play and power in ST.

It's obviously a longshot, but it would be a great feel good story if Votto can earn his way onto the Jays lineup in meaningful backup role at 1B/DH.
