Some one once told me the Kings, as they're currently constituted, are generally a bunch of muckers and grinders which fits well with Sutter type hockey; "it's a 3-2 league". Not sure that's so true now but, having said that, I'm also not sure that a new coach can do anything much different than Sutter with the personnel Lombardi has provided. However, the team needs a bit of re-invigoration and a coaching change would yield at least short-term benefits. Who knows whether it would be enough with the current roster.

Can't see any positives of bringing back Sutter next season. Players can't stand him and they'll be wasting another year off the player's prime years. Not only that but the roster is good enough that if everyone plays to their career normal levels, this is a playoff team. But they're not good enough to go deep in the playoffs. Stuck in the middle is the worst place to be.

Buying out Gaborik just doesn't make much sense, the savings we get are just not enough to be worth it in the long run.

I'd say the results of the past three years has been unacceptable. Lombardi was visibly upset of how last season went. I'm going to imagine he's a bit more upset with the results of this season.

He's going to be even more upset when he's (hopefully) fired and doesn't get a chance to fix this mess he put us in.

Everyone else firing their coaches right now. If Sutter isn't fired within the next couple days or so I believe he'll continue as head coach.

one of them has to go, it's a toxic situation imo. it is similar to the situation here in Chicago with Fox (Coach) and Cutler (QB). a poor season result and situation where the fanbase has now seen enough of both guys, change HAD to take place. so Cutler is let go instead of the coach. even though Cutler is stat wise the best QB in team history (which isn't saying much), one of the top QB's as a free agent and CHI needs a QB.....they couldn't bring him back.

the situation with Dean and Sutter is similar, because if both remain in place there will be a significant damage done. we've speculated for quite some time about Sutter losing the room and that is more prevalent than ever. the fanbase is also without question frustrated with what has occurred the past 3 years.

one if not both need to move along. to show the org won't tolerate missing the playoffs and 1 win in 3-years.

the ss below is damn telling and this needs to be fixed ASAP. the goal differential is just ridiculous. to have the 5th best GAA (even without Quick all season) and to miss the playoffs is unacceptable. +22 and +23 are the #8 and #9 ranked differentials, then LA at #10 with -4. it is time for change to take place, so this doesn't keep going on. it is time for some fresh air and new concepts brought into the locker room.

"It starts within the room... We should be ready to rock [next season] on opening night, regardless who is behind the bench" - Anze Kopitar

Wow!

FWIW......

Key points:

- Sutter is a goner, but not necessarily Dean.
- Expect Gaborik to be bought out.
- Expect Forbort to be protected in the expansion, meaning they likely go 4+4, barring a trade.
- Should Blake take over as the GM, don't expect Brown to go.

If Blake is named GM, I wouldn't expect Futa to be around much longer.

Not sure what Blake has done to earn the position over Futa.

Better than Bobby Douglas!?!

How can that be!?!

I think Futa could still earn a promotion even if Blake were to be named GM. Will Jeff Solomon still be around if Dean moves on? He's supposed to be the capologist, but given how things have worked out with that...

Futa could be promoted I suppose, but his name has been mentioned several times as a potential GM when other teams are searching for one.

If Dean really does move on and Blake takes over, I expect the Kings will slide back into mediocrity for quite some time.

I think the suggestion of Ralph Kruger was a very solid one. Did great at the World Cup and I really thought did well in his lone season in Edmonton. Though it will be really hard to pry him from his current position.

I have not been an avid viewer of the Panthers the last couple of seasons, but who do many on here think Gallant would be a better option for this current team? Just curious as I do not know much about him or his coaching style.

The Kings style of play is as much Lombardi's choice as Sutter's. Time for both to go and a fresh start for their replacements.

Man needs a new calculator

Didn't Futa decline the AGM position anyway to remain head of scouting?

The Los Angeles Kings have promoted Michael Futa to Vice President of Hockey Operations and Director of Player Personnel, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Futa came to the Kings in 2006, when he was appointed Co-Director of Amateur Scouting along with Mark Yannetti.

During his tenure as General Manager of The Attack, Futa was named OHL Executive of the Year in 2005 and his team’s advanced to the post-season in all five seasons with Futa at the helm.

In my book VP of Hockey Operations and Director of Player Personnel outranks Assistant GM in charge of the Ontario Reign.

Do the Kings really want to pass over Futa in favor of Rob Blake? Dumb move if they do, and would have Luc Robitaille's fingerprints all over it.

Buying out Gaborik just doesn't make much sense, the savings we get are just not enough to be worth it in the long run.

Those were the mayor's assumptions, not the team's. I'd doubt the front office is giving him the heads up on what moves are being made before they actually decide.
