Post-Game Talk: Spoilers

It does appear that way when our highest paid players pick and choose when they show up
I'll give you Panarin. He's that good (or at least he was) and I agree with you and others in regard to the reasons you want to move on from him.

Even with Panarin in final form, it's not enough. JT Miller would be like 20th best center to win the Stanley Cup since the lockout.

They need more.

And look, I agree, if they played like this all year instead of farting around (and icing Lindgren and Trouba), they would make the playoffs, but we're talking about winning the Cup.

I don't think they're in that bad of a spot, in a sense. They're a lot more competitive now that they're not icing one of the worst regular defensemen in the NHL, which a lot of folks said would happen, but they still don't have the high-end guys, and this game was the perfect example. Bupkis on three powerplays. Top six invisible except for Cuylle. JT barfing the puck all over the place. Sam Carrick looking like our most talented guy multiple times this year.

They actually played well and it still wasn't enough.

Get rid of Panarin, I agree, but they need a player replacing him who is just as good as Panarin on his game was, and probably another guy in that range.

The shit they need is the hardest stuff to get.

Yes, but we have assets (Panarin, Trocheck, Kreider can all return valuable pieces), cap space, and we're New York and therefore get first dibs on every single free agent.

The drop pass on zone entries on the power play is embarrassing in how predictable it is. As is Panarin force feeding one timers. As is Fox never shooting from the point. Mika and Kreider may as well have not been on the ice for it.
single or double drop pass is the best way to get entries on the power play. NYR just don’t have any good transition skaters out there other than Panarin. Laf would help them a lot there and I’m not really sure what aspect of hockey you would see a drop off in if you swapped him with Kreider

Heres the problem I have with the "center" list.

There have been seasons where a team has won with a "top" center doing f*** all.

Jonathan Toews f***ing did nothing for the Blackhawks in 2013 and they almost got knocked out of the playoffs in the 2nd round because of it.

Strength of a roster is always paramount, not having a "top" center. Sometimes those guys come through but those teams wouldn't be any worse if they played on the wing.

I think the point stands. He's probably our best forward.

And the dude can barely receive a pass.

Best we've played all season.

What had happened was, they ran into Prime Connor McDavid and Igor got out-played by...Stuart Skinner. That's a team favored to win the Cup and they hung with them. Also, f*** every single person on this team for not putting forth that level of effort until mid March.

3 weeks ago this board said Drury/Lavi should be fired for not playing Jones and Othman.

Tonight the board says Jones and Oth suck.

These pretzels are making me thirsty 😂
Othmann's clearly not ready.
Jones does some nice things here and there but comes up lacking in leverage spots. Got handed the PP and did a whole lot of nothing with it. Closer to a non-tender then playtime.

I hate to give up on Jones skills because we have so few but I understand. He needs to play better.

Kind of ironic that because Mika is succeeding on the wing, we don't have a #3 center

Ya but I think whatever funk Mika was in, hes out of it and is more into the game. I dont think that will change. Our 3rd line needs to provide offense when the top 6 can't imo.

My only rationale is because you need to shit or get off the pot with these guys.

Othmann less than Jones, but is Othmann a piece for the bottom 6 next season or is he in a trade? We have to find out. Same with Berard, but we've seen him produce. Othmann has done nothing. It also speaks volumes when the 3rd begins, Lavi skips over Othmann, Rempe, and Berard. Then the first time Othmann is out there, turnover, 3 on 2, back of the net.

Jones has shown flashes, but that might be all he is. It feels like they're going to make their decisions on both players in this sample. They have not done well.

I'm all for playing Parssinen over Othmann to get him a game to watch. Jones has a longer leash.

We also don't have any other wingers, so Mika is needed more at RW than C. Nobody else is playing a top 6 winger role on the roster.

Laviolette is not going to experiment at this stage of the season with an unproven winger in the top 6.

This team is in desperate need of an actual RW, not LWs masquerading.

The effort was definitely there.
Good, honest hockey from both sides.
Oilers are just the better team.
Agree with first 2 points
Not sure if oilers are he better team, we always ply close games with them. Not that many shots tonight, but the Rangers would rather pass than shoot. Always one to many or just a crappy pass.
No one in position for a rebound and shooting accuracy just is not there.

I just don't know why we can't just not let McJesus skate by the whole team, like it seems he does every time we play them.

Need more talent up front. Don't have enough guys that can either create a real opportunity. Or, more important, we don't have enough guys with enough talent to really capitalize on good chances.

Stuart Skinner sucks ass, but a crap goalie can luck into outplaying your high paid one any random given night.

Also, jesus christ does Zac Jones blow chunks. He can't play actual defense to save his life.
Which is exactly why you don’t pay yours all that money. Sam Carrick will never luck into being McDavid.

The game winner was as brutal as can be.

Tired team spends half the first period killing fake penalties. Not enough left in the tank, some bad bounces, and finally, out-goalied for the loss. Microcosm of the season, starting out in a deep hole and can’t quite dig themselves out.
