Your earlier comment seems to suggest he may be open to play elsewhere beacuse of the timing of his signing. And I was puzzled by that

Nope, not what I was suggesting. What I was suggesting is if he is going no where, why sign him and open him up to the possibility of exposing him to the expansion draft. unless you are going to protect him, which means you are going 7-3-1 and that means Holl will be exposed. Which if I had my druthers I would take Holl over Spez.

We know nothing about him in an 82 game season. To expect him to endure an entire season, not falter, face injury or hit roadblocks without any proper backup to assume a top 6 role is foolish.

We’ve devastated our depth so that if an 800K player has trouble, all you have is a 700K replacement.
oh c'mon, when has a Leaf prospect not panned out as expected? :sarcasm:

Toronto is lucky that players like Spezza want to come and play here for less.

And yet dubas still can't ice a team that will win a round.

How many advantages does kyle need?

Look at the other D they likely have available - Dumba, Toews, Murphy, Skjei, Dunn, Shattenkirk, etc. I’d be surprised if Holl could crack their lineup.

Though not every player taken by them will play for them. It's likely that trades happen from some of the guys selected after the draft. They can't fit 31 guys on their roster

Hoping Foligno falls in that same category. He was playing hurt, he has a lot more to offer. And I've heard he wants to come back. With Hyman likely gone, id love to get Foligno back on a contract between 3-4mil. Fans, management, and Foligno himself don't love the taste left in their mouths from that deal/performance. I think he wants to make things right, and I'd love a player of his leadership and snarl back. He had 4 assists in his first 4 games before getting hurt. Then he wasn't the same. I heard Chris Johnston on the Steve Dangles podcast say that even Montreal players said that wasn't the same Nick Foligno they're used to. Wasn't engaging in scrums as much etc. Would like to give him another kick at the can, especially since Hyman likely walks away

If Foligno and Zach did not get hurt then I believe Habs would have been done in 5 games .. we had no one who could do what those can do to win loose pucks .. it was obvious neither guy could perform at their normal level .. hopefully we can somehow figure out a way to keep both guys as lines 1 and 2 need them to succeed in playoffs

More Proof that Dubas is one of the best UFA contract negotiators in the NHL. No other GM could sign Spezza to a better contract then what Dubas has.

Lol Spezza wants to play for the leafs. He grew up a massive leafs fan.

Dubas is not good when it comes to signing players. Probably the worst rfa negotiator in the league.

When did Tavares hold out?
he held out signing with the Islanders while giving them excuses how he's a loyal guy and not to trade him and then used them and other teams to squeeze Dubie like a bitch for a ridiculous contract that has ruined this team

Why should I give a crap what he did with the Islanders? Plus we know Tavares could have got more free agent money elsewhere, so if he was an example for the young players, then they left money on the table.

you asked me when held out , i told you , now you say you say you don't care but maybe the kids did and that's why they squeezed Dubie

and sure JT was offered more

-just like how Dubie believed the Yotes were going to offer AM the full 20% of the cap

-or how Marner could have signed an offer sheet for more

-and now how Hyman is worth 6m per on a 7yr deal as a ufa

the cool thing about being a Leaf fan is all the back stories to defend incompetent GM's

Unless Auston follows his example and decides to take a discount to "go home" once he's UFA.

A hold out in sports typically means not reporting to camp due to a contractual dispute. Tavares never did that.

describe it how you like but the kids saw the lack of respect Tavares showed his old team and took his lead

at the end of the day a player can leave how they want but it would be nice if they showed the team and the fan base some respect especially the ones who were treated very well

Halladay never demanded a trade but came out and said he wasn't going to re sign which allowed the team to move him for assets , which to me is the classy thing to do

JT pulled a Bosh but worse since he kept going on about how he's a loyal guy and not to trade him

At least Shinny/Duabs have their finger on the pulse of the fans:

Shanny:"Who do fans love the most after the choke?"
Dubas:"Probably Spezza."
Shanny:"Sign him now before the fans burn the Scotiabank Arena down."
