IF we trade Helle and that starts an exodus I would look at trading Josh to SJS. They need D and Josh is one of the best. Maybe we get Misa for Josh, or will Smith.

It sounds to me like a lot more than just listening to offers. If Helle hasn't exactly demanded a trade he has at least let Chevy know that he would be open to a trade. That is the very least.

If I'm Florida, and I think that Hellebuyck only wants to he traded to Florida, I'd probably hem and haw past the draft and hope that Hellebuyck turns up the heat a bit on Jets management. It's a gamble but I can't really see Hellebuyck wanting to go elsewhere right now.

Chevy can just grind it out into the late summer or longer if he needs to. He has 5 years of control and a winning season can change attitudes. Florida doesn’t have a signed goalie for next season so they have some urgency. This is Chevy’s moment to get the return he needs and I don’t think he blinks.

if those reports came from the hockey writers then they were written by A.I, unless you believe that malhotra is going to fall because the jets didn't meet with him or chase reid would be honoured if we traded up for him because he spent a day with colin miller earlier in the season and he told him how beautiful the city is

That = a DEMAND for a trade. He may not be at that point. Or he is at that point but doesn't want to be a dick about it. Silence doesn't prove anything, one way or another.

There’s a writer at Hockey News named “Jake Tye”. He has churned out a ton of Jets related articles. Whether he’s a real person or A.I., who knows. But his bio does list he went to college in Mississauga area. So there’s that.

He mentioned there’s “murmurs” the Jets may be willing to move down. And one of the players they could be considering in a trade down is Mathis Preston.

He also wrote another article saying the Jets could explore trading down for Malte Gustafsson. He's ranked in top 10 in some ranks, so might be risky trading down if he’s their ultimate target.

I don't think Florida will either if the ask is #9 and Lundell. The Panthers do have other goaltending options if it came to it.

Not sure if they can have a winning season, but we are more likely to if Chevy gets his price and if not Helly plays goal for the Jets. The worst chance is if Chevy caves, but that seems unlikely historically speaking.

I didn’t say 9 and Lundell. I said I believe Chevy will grind out his price no matter how long it takes and if that price doesn’t present itself Helly will be playing goal for the Jets.

Do you really think they would want to tie the rest of their window to Bob after the season he just had at 38 years old? I mean, I have zero inside information, but I think that would be just crazy. Unless he signs cheaply enough that they can just bury him if he sucks, but then they still need a goalie. Where are they going to get one mid-season? Circle back to Helle if Jets are off to a bad start - but the price went up.

That what I heard, he wants a Marchand type deal.

I was just throwing out all in house possibilities. Besides Barron makes the most sense if you are getting a 2 C as part of any deal.

Lots of potential wingers to work around that. But that gives us strength down the middle, depending on the 2C of course.

Exactly. So why the talk about a 4C? If, say Barron is packaged off to Fla, we have a couple of other 4C's who have shown promise. I think Zhilkin might win that job and Barron move up to the 3rd line.

I think they need to. Our core is on the wrong side of 30 and trying to retool on the fly could just force us into a rebuild in another 3-4 years anyways. But we'll have a lot less value to move when that happens than we do right now. So a little slow cook rebuild over the next 2-3 seasons is probably a much smarter option than trying to compete and having to do one anyways.

The difference between a tear down rebuild and a retool on the fly might be as simple as getting a few well chosen roster players mixed in with the futures.

Could be right, but this team with average goaltending over 5 years is a non-playoff team. If he does have another poor year, the team is done either way. Last year we're talking about a bad year for him and he was pretty much league average across all categories.
