Larkin still holds all the cards. Maybe it's just those 3 teams maybe it's 4 or 5. But at the end of the day I think Yzerman will move him to one of those teams on his list and he will likely lose the trade.

He's not going to risk bringing Larkin back into that dressing room to start the season. I'd bet this deal is done before training camp starts.

I agree with the bolded, but I think it will be to a team not on that 3 team list.

I'm not sure if the league can ever make up for the tax advantage some places have. Unless they can somehow change the tax code I think it's just something we have to deal with.

Signing bonuses can be a way to level that out. I'm not sure that is clear cut, but it is a possibility.

It is getting to be pretty tough for quite a few teams. Players and agents have figured out how to maximize their leverage. Even players with no trade protection are forcing their way to where they want. Even newly drafted players are doing it.

The list of preferred locations is actually pretty short. 2 teams in Florida, 1 in Texas, Vegas top the list. There is a 2nd tier that doesn't have the tax advantage. 3 in California plus Carolina have the climate going for them. Those 8 have a distinct edge. After that it is more scattered.
And with the massive CAP increase small market teams will become little more than feeder teams to the rich franchises.

Expansion? Contraction seems more likely.

Anyone have any insight into Perfetti possibly wanting out? No idea who the poster is or if they have inside info...

I wonder if they had a limit on how many times a team could be on the NTC , NMC ? Whatever that number is once a team hit it players couldn't put that team on their list anymore.

Instead of limiting NMCs or NTCs, maybe the NHL can set up an algorithm for distributing draft picks.

For example, if Winnipeg is on 100% of NMCs or NTCs then the Jets get multiple picks in the Top 40 of the Draft weighted closer to the top of the draft in order to give the Jets an opportunity to access top talent.

Vegas and Florida who are on 0% of NMCs or NTCs get multiple picks weighted toward the end of the draft.

You don't have to change the CBA and teams like Winnipeg can replenish their talent pool when their current star players become UFA's.

I mean it's possible but the whole I know someone who knows someone on a hockey forum, yeah I am gonna lean bullshit.

@sipowicz without question got a little excited over that one though.

There was some smoke from Marek that perfetti wasn't happy getting bottom 6 minutes and benched back when he was slumping with Bones as coach - wouldn't be surprised if he heard about some digruntlement from that if he knows the Perfettis.

I'd be curious how up to date his rumblings are (if it's something he heard recently or a year or two back)

Maybe. I'm not sure where the HHR that backs the cap increase is coming from and how that revenue is shared.

I think Minny is heavily interested and will put the best offer of the 3 teams on the list. I think it's also Larkins #1 destination because there is a clear path to playing C in their top 6.

But Minny is the least able to make a decent offer. Yurov + Stramel + even their next 2 1st rd picks isn't even close in value. Those picks can be assumed to be late, especially with the addition of Larkin. If they would have had him this year they might still be playing.

That is in the area where DRW tells Larkin to come to camp ready to play. They will suffer the consequences if that is the best deal they can get. If Larkin truly wants out, he will expand his list. If he adds Utah he has a team that needs him and that can put together a nice package.

I can't see Larkin waiving for Utah or Columbus or Seattle or any of the other teams that could put together the best packages. The rumour is he won't waive for Canada.

It's likely Larkin knows that those 3 teams are gonna be tough to work with but also likely he knows that Yzerman is on thin ice right now. I don't think Larkin is to concerned with going back into that room and being stripped of the C. He wouldn't have leaked this out if he was.

I understand how math works, that's why I said the relative difference not the total difference.

It doesn't seem to be a problem in any of the other big 4 sports leagues, it's only ever mentioned in the NHL.

Other leagues don't have as much impact from salaries though either.

NBA has rules to sign players over/around the cap. NFL has non-guaranteed money that you can dump if you need to. MLB has no cap. The NHL is uniquely positioned with a hard cap, guaranteed salaries and less overall revenue (cap ceiling) meaning every dollar counts that much more.

I will keep coming back to one thing. If he wants to be traded, he needs to expend his list.

That list is essentially 1 team and surely he can see that for himself. And that 1 team is unable to make a decent offer for him, no matter how willing they might be. That is assuming that Kaprizov, Boldy, Faber and Hughes are off the table. They just don't have anything else except a goalie that DRW don't need.

If Yzerman caves to this he should just fire himself first because he won't survive with the Minny return.

I think Yzerman's days are already numbered. The only reason he has the job still is because his name Yzerman so he's getting a much longer leash than would be afforded to nearly anyone else. There is a chance that with this rift between the two of them, this might be a ploy by Larkin to light a fire under them to potentially move off of Yzerman. Bit of a tinfoil hat theory but it's possible.

Stevie Y is in a tough spot, if he does move him to those teams then the return is going to seriously hurt their future, if he tells Larkin to shove it because those teams have nothing to offer then he has a disgruntled 1C sitting around causing a rift in the locker room.

If I am him I am not moving him for scraps from the three listed teams, either expand your list to the likes of the Ducks or Utah etc or wait him out and see what happens.

Imagine if Scheifs pulled this, said I want out and I will only accept FLA, MIN or VGK, we wouldn't want Chevy to accept any of their pittances that they would be offering, we would want him to stay his hand and get that list expanded, fortunately for us I doubt Scheifs would ever pull this crap.

Ya this is starting to feel more likely and more real. Consistent chatter. If it’s true the time to strike is at the draft. Gets us a top 10 pick Chevy. Or a bona fide young 2C if possible.

Interesting. No way to know how much truth is there but it should fire up the Helly for #9 + discussion.
I don't believe it either but I certainly won't be surprised if it's true, if it is true then might as well just start that rebuild we have all been talking about.

Even if it's 9OA + Lundell it still leaves us without anyone in viable in net, Comrie certainly cannot manage it, maybe we can get Brossoit back? I dunno we would kinda be cooked.

I absolutely wouldn’t hate that, the often discussed 9th OA & Lundell is too much barring Jets adding, plus I highly Lundell would be available bc Panthers want to win now. Helle straight up for 9th OA plus something smaller (they have 2-3 goalie prospects look ok, not much else) than Lundell would be good by me.

To Florida for…
#9
RW Mackie Samoskevich, 23yr old, 2021 #27 pick
C Gracyn Sawchyn, 21yr old, 2023 #63 pick

Draft Rudolph #8 and Belchetz #9
I would be shocked if Helle returned much more than the 9th OA, small plus yes but nothing major or big imo. Mackie might be too big of a plus, unless Jets add. I would love it but certainly wouldn’t expect that much of a plus
