Friedman on the FAN Hockey Show said that he believes the league should be worried about this trend of players using their NMCs to demand trades to specific markets. He said some of the Canadian teams he's spoken to are.

I'm not sure they can really do much about it other than not hand them out.

Yzerman gave Larkin the NMC. He can't be mad he's using something in his contract to his own advantage when he was the one that gave it to him.

If you are going to trade Hellebuyck, at least trade him for Wallstedt.

The Pavelec years were diifficult.

Never will get a star Russian goalie again in Winnipeg.

Canadian goalies, Carter Hart might be the best one.
I just can't see the need to continue relying on an ageing core with such a weak prospect pool that is unable to supplement them, also the chemistry doesn't seem to be there. When I watched #55 show so much emotions and character last few playoffs I'm reminded in 2018 we had that team wide,I just don't see it,get the future started.its sad that I have seen rosen penciled into the top 6 next year, based on what.the truth is In the playoffs and the res0and not a president's trophy, I hear 2 arguments ans one is we can't score to help helle, other is helle in the playoffs is brutal,my take is both can be true at the same time.

I think your captain wanting out really hurts the room if you ask me. I don't think Yzerman can just hold on to Larkin until he gets a great deal. I think he will be forced to make the trade sooner rather than later.
Yeah…it’s not just a disgruntled player…it’s disgruntled leadership…you need that out of the room before you start the next season or you risk it spreading.
Yzerman needs to do his due diligence and haggle like never before, but in the end he needs that trade done before training camp

This is ridiculous the players all wanting to go to Vegas and Florida,as far as larkin it seems Yzerman doesn't think he motivates the team and larkin thinks Yzerman doesn't try or isn't capable of improving the team,as much as I was a huge proby, kocur and helm fan I can never forget Yzerman on one leg in the playoffs while using a hyperbolic chamber by night the guy was an ultimate leader and why my son took #19,larkin is not that but is a good shoot first center

Honest question, don’t you think the old and slow additions wrecked the team culture this past season? Those last four games of the year honestly scare me about the Jets moving forward… that was not ‘giving it all’ to the end.

Going to presidents cup to last in January kills a culture… going from 7th last in the league to still out of the playoffs but starting a rebuild, not sure thats any worse
And trading your best player and saying here's a career back up as your starter for a year would destroy it more or even worse imo. Clear tank move and doubt players and coaches will be pleased being here or coming here.

Tax advantages exist in every league.
True, but with the gargantuan salaries of NFL, MLB and NBA players they aren't as relatively impactful IMO.

If you're making $50 mil a year, you're less likely to be concerned with paying more tax on it cause you're still going to be very rich. At 7-10 mil, the tax may provide more of an incentive.

Yup with the vegas and Florida teams becoming the dodgers,Yankees and red soxs

Although in the MLB the big spenders have the advantage. In the NHL Edmonton and Toronto should have all the advantages to attract players. But in reality it's the sunbelt teams that seem to have the advantages. Probably why the MLB is trying to get a salary cap.

The difference between Dak Prescotts 80M signing bonus in Texas vs California is nearly 11M in his favor. The signing bonus stuff may be even more prevalent in other sports

I'm not sure if the league can ever make up for the tax advantage some places have. Unless they can somehow change the tax code I think it's just something we have to deal with.

NHL was always thought of one of the highest parity leagues and now is one of the lowest. The effect of NMC and tax advantage cannot be denied IMO.
The nmc is insane and is destroying hockey as fast as the lack of intense physical rivalries, im watching the whalers vs sabres playoffs right now when Arniel was in Buffalo and cunnyworth was on the whalers and how intense it was and they genuinely disliked each other.

Now having already explained my lack of schooling, I'm wondering if the salary cap can be revised to include final salary with taxed dollars per team included

NMC/NTC should only be available to players over 29 …. I think this could help player movement without the NHLPA declaring nuclear war.

Gives mature players more control over location while allowing teams to deal for players in their late 20s

Not sure if the PA would go for something like that. They fought pretty hard to get it included for everyone after their ELC.

IIRC, and it's been a year since I looked at this there's over 260 NTC or NMC contracts. Few players are on LTIR or not playing but it is roughly 8+ per team. The Jets themselves have 8.
Out of a 20 player NHL lineup 8/40% have NTC NMC.... I'm all for players having some control, bc you can "barely" control who drafts/owns you, however gm's really hand it out like candy.

Might be something that can be figured out but the problem seems to be that the leadership of the league doesn't think it's a problem. Bettman laughs maniacally and claims it's a non-issue every time it's brought up to him. Daly doesn't seem to be in disagreement there either as the heir apparent.

I understand how math works, that's why I said the relative difference not the total difference.

It doesn't seem to be a problem in any of the other big 4 sports leagues, it's only ever mentioned in the NHL.

This team has to get back to skating as its identity.

Scheif, KC, J Mo and Helle are worth the price of admission.

I like that all the prospects like Yager, Lambert, Rosen, Zhilkin, Salomonsson, Brown can skate. Not going to light it up with those guys but can increase entertainment value with speed. Good puck movement

As long as the Jets have a #1 C, who is closing in on 1000 games and points, there's a pulse.

With the Olympics I think the league as a whole was boring. Grind out a few points, try not get injured for the once in a lifetime opportunity.

There's no way the Jets can afford to be the slowest team in the league again. They can get by with "team" toughness, maybe moreso with Stanley who will try to hurt people that go after stars, but they'll never be an intimidating team again.

Hellebuyck is the reason the Jets got as far as they did at any point in this franchise. Is he an underachieving playoff goalie? Yep. But maybe as Ehlers was an underachieving playoff performer just need the right fit.

We all know Winnipeg isn't winning the Cup. But winning a playoff round is never out of the question. Old Jets only won 2. WHA was a different animal.
