So the two East playoff teams that did next to nothing at the trade deadline are meeting in round 3. Granted Florida really couldn't do much and SJ wasn't playing ball with us, but still.

They did use up the majority of the 10M cap space so they did something, it just wasn't flashy. Thankfully the next to nothing was what we gave up.

And the whole thing is that the Canes wanted to make a major move: Timo Meier. The lesson that everyone should take here is that this group did not panic and make rash deadline overpayments after their Plan A fell through.

I mean- when I look at the teams left, the only one I see as being a real obstacle to the Canes is Dallas, what with Jamie Benn and company smashing up Necas or whomever.

I think the boys can snuff out FLA as long as Tkachuck and Hornqvist don't bust everyone up. I think we match up well against high-octane offensive teams.

Oh my God, it just hit me: This entire playoffs will be the Don Waddell revenge tour.

We eliminate Horvat, who we were rumored to be close to acquiring before missing out.
We eliminate Meier, who we were rumored to be close to acquiring before missing out.
We eliminate Tkachuk, who we were rumored to be close to acquiring before missing out.

And then we face the ultimate boss: The guy Waddell replaced. Ron Francis and the Seattle Kraken.

I don’t think we were ever close on Horvat. We asked but Vancouver wanted the best 1st rounder they could get. We were eliminated on the initial conversation by the sounds of it.

Seattle looks like their magic has run out.
