I will get mine on Monday. I am still mad at Amazon for the delay. For being the largest company in term of valuation in the world I find them quite amateurish. Last time I pre-order anything with them.

Word of advice to you boys: DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR CONTROLLER! My wife and I were playing Sackman, she decided to go to bed and turned off her controller. It completely froze the system. Not button on the controller nor simply pressing the power button would work. I had to hold the power button down for like ten seconds and the system rebooted and gave me the whole “system didn’t shutdown properly, must verify files” thing, but thankfully it has worked fine since then. Definitely a scary moment though.

I guess you shutdown the system and it turn off the controller?

Yeah that’s the only way I’m turning off my controller at least until they release a firmware update. Rest mode apparently causes some issues too so I’ve avoided that entirely.

So when do we see all these awesome load times? So far it seems like it might be a bit faster than ps4 but I’m not seeing anything noticeably better. Is that a developer thing? Should I give Spider-Man a try? I’d hope they did it best since it’s an exclusive.

Also, the game switching seems about he same as ps4. Suspending COD seems worse. Have to go back to main menu when you come back. Maybe that’s a COD developer choice.

Paint the panels black?

I don’t hate it that much. But if Sony starts selling black panels for less than $50, I’ll buy them.

The activities feature is pretty sweet for some games. I had two friends playing EASHL last night and I went to activities and selected “join” and it put me right in the lobby without having to go through all of the menus. Easily a 30 second time save. Sackman you can just jump straight into a level without going to any menus. Spider-Man’s fast travel is genuinely under 3 seconds. What game are you playing that’s experiencing long load times? The few I’ve played have been basically instant.

Valhalla and COD. I was more interested in those, so I haven’t played much of Spider-Man yet.

So my buddy got a XSX, I got a ps5 and, we both got AC Valhalla on hard copy. When he put it in on Tuesday he said it pulled ~900MB off the disk then did a 48GB download and he had to wait until the next day to play it. When I put it in for the first time it installed 14GB from the disk, then did the optional day one patch of 2.7GB and I was ready to go in maybe 20 minutes.

Not trying to say the ps5 is way better or anything as install time is generally meaningless, just curious if people know what caused such a huge difference. With xbox going so heavy on downloading games with gamepass are they pretty much just going to be using disks as activation keys and everything will be downloaded? Seems strange when the XSX is a pretty powerful machine to not take advantage of it.

Ahh gotcha. Haven’t played either of those, but do have COD installed and noticed there is an activity to jump into basically any multiplayer game type that you want without the menus. I hope there is one for zombies but didn’t notice it when I was browsing around. Spider-Man is definitely quick. I can assure you of that.

PS Direct shipped me the console but I also order a game. The game never came and it was supposed to be part of this order. The online shipping shows that it was part of the same tracking number, but when I got it, only a console. f***ing hell...

You can play the game that comes with the console...Astro's Playroom. I heard it's pretty good.

I got one tracking number and email showing both were shipped.
Ya, it might just be on another truck. Give it till the end of the day or tomorrow, it may still show. One order usually gets 1 number. The postal might have just split it up for some reason.

The cross-gen games arent going to take full advantage of the new SSD. Digital Foundry did a comparison the other day, and found that the majority of cross-gen and last-gen BC games actually loaded faster on XSX.

The in-house Sony games and selectively enhanced BC games load much faster.

Okay. I guess I thought that load times were solely based on retrieval times which would be almost eliminated with SSD’s of this generation. I figured they would have a ram bottleneck on the cross-gen games, but the SSD would be more across the board benefit.

I mean, should be seeing some noticeable improvement, just not earth-shattering improvement. I havent played a cross-gen or bc game on ps5 yet tho.

The difference from Xbox One to Series X on Destiny load times is impressive for me tho.

Not really. It’s been a while since I played the last assassins creed game on ps4, and I haven’t pulled out the stopwatch. But fast travel doesn’t feel fast at all. I was expecting a big improvement there.

Edit: having just googled it, I guess I just forgot how outrageously slow the old ones were. Looks like last gen Xbox takes a minute for fast travel. I do get much faster than that. I think I just watched those pre-release videos (of other games) and the transition was almost instantaneous. Definitely not there.

I can’t believe Spider-Man Miles Morales is a game that exists in my lifetime. I’m not a super hero fan at all really. I don’t read comics, I don’t watch the movies, and I’ve never played the game before. I heard the PS4 game was great, but superhero games are just not my cup of tea. MM came with the bundle I ordered from GameStop so I decided to give it a go just to play something truly next gen. Good lord. This game is incredible. I’ll never touch the fast travel system because swinging around the city is the most fun part of the game. Combat is pretty fun too with all of the gadgets and dodging. The graphics are ridiculous and I feel like a total badass when I play. If you’re really into superheroes you’ll probably love it even more than I do. Can’t say enough about how incredible this game is. Just wish it wasn’t so short. I could play 100 hours of this no doubt.
