Sather is just going to keep abandoning styles as they keep failing. 11-12 was a gritty, physical team, hard to play against. That didn't work in his eyes so now he shifts to a skilled team. After this year he will probably go back. And I hope he does.

And I wouldn't want just Prust on the team either. I said the same thing then. I want a few players like that who can play the game and bring some edge. Not looking for goons.

the rangers were the toughest team in the league in 2011-12, led the league in fighting majors and total hits. What more were you asking for that season? :dunno:

I was ready to come away with some of those kids in this years draft as well. I like the Duchnevich and Duclair picks. I like Graves. Tambellini I am a bit 'meh' on but we will see.

I think the Rangers did the right thing in this draft with the few picks they had. They went for skill. It was the right move. Tambellini? It's Gordie Clark. I'm one of those people who trust him.

What other players in the mold of what you described above were available? Asking cause I don't know. My knowledge base is pretty limited.

A gritty, physical team should be the foundation to every championship caliber team. Its a mindset that can be contagious throughout the lineup. I find it awfully perplexing that this team is going the skill route when they dont have much skill.

The 11-12 team would run through a brick wall to get to a loose puck. Last year's team? Not so much. In fact, their unwillingness to engage and play a physically demanding style is what got their coach fired. Thats alarming. We've got a team now thats basically labeled the style of the best Ranger team in 20 years as "too hard."

And its a team that doesnt have the top end skill to back up that type of attitude. For the myriad of posters who thought the coach was the issue, you're in for a rude awakening.

To have someone else like Prust in the line-up over Bickel and Rupp. I am not just a "I want Fightz" guy. I want toughness that can play. Prust + Dorsett on the same team would have been great. There was a time that Neil was rumored to be coming to the Rangers. Yet another player who is highly effective in his role.

Too many Prust types is not a good thing IMO. You need a nice blend of toughness and skill. Prust had stonehands like Dorsett does. One is enough for me, but I may be in the minority.

I think 3 players up and down the forward line-up who can drop the gloves is ideal. (2) on the lower lines. One in the Top-6. The Rangers have (1).

Prust and Dorsett would make up 2/3 of a great shut-down/energy line.

Chris Neil was a guy the Rangers should have brought in years ago. It would have been very painful, but I think it would have been worth it.

He's exactly the type of player I think many of us are talking about. An absolute pain in the ass who almost pushed the Sens past us last year.

Asham is a fighter in bottom 6, but they still need the top 6 fighter according to your proposal. Not that far off from most teams in the league.

Asham is old. I am talking about a Clifford or Foligno or Mcginn type.

The top-6 has always been lacking in that department. Sucks Clowe couldn't stay healthy and wanted the moon.

Brashear, Shelly, Boogaard, Rupp, and Hollweg were all bad.

Arron Asham can play hockey and scores some clutch goals.

Colton Orr does his job well, not a great player but better than the guys in the first group.

Haley, idk what to say about him, I do think he can play though.

Brashear in his prime was far better than Colton.

These bottom six guys are a dime a dozen yet we never draft any...always acquire the wrong ones...

It is so easy to bait some of you guys...I mention a guy like Sesito and 12 guys reply...who the **** wants Sesito...my point is...if you never draft big aggresive guys you will never have any on your team.

Sather struck gold with Prust...got lucky....then Sather doesn't appreicate or understand his importance to the team and let's him walk...

it's just like when Avery left for Dallas and Sather goes out and signs a bunch of guys who all suck...Voros, Rissimiller and the like.

meh, i don't put too much emphasis on fighting as long as they can go to the dirty areas to try and win puck battles.

What do you mean that didn't work in his eyes?

He didn't "let" him walk. He offered him a contract and Prust wanted more than he was worth. Losing Prust hurts, but not at four years, $2.5M per. He's already starting to break down, his shoulders just keep getting worse and worse.

You do know we didn't draft Prusty, right?

When Sather doesn't want to take no for an answer he stops @ nothing...if we keep Prust we don't lost a 2nd, 3rd and 5th.

Prust's girlfriend living in Montreal had almost as much to do with him signing there as the money did. Are they immune to criticism for only wanting money because they are also tough or is that reserved for skill guys only?

I would take two of them, one on each of the bottom six lines.

Then when things start getting a little out of hand, throw them together for a couple of shifts with Boyle down the middle. (the latter for additional checking power)

I'm excited for this season.

You know what this team is missing, Mikhail Grabovski, he would be the perfect player for the Rangers, in the Zherdev, Lisin mold.

I have seen pictures of him in Vegas that would lead me to believe that he is not really serious about having a girlfriend.

Sather could have locked up Prust the year before for a lot less than he took from Habs.
