While I have you here and as we’ve discussed willfully giving away information for the sake of expedience in the past…

Do you think that having to verify yourself on social media accounts (namely Twitter) would make for a better platform?

This may be a deeper conversation then you want to get into.

My professional account has my full name. My personal is something Whale related and anonymous. Less followers by quite a bit, but I guess I’ve seen both sides on the receiving end.

Pros: Bots get better, but will still exist.

Cons: The real nut jobs won’t change a thing. You can always spoof up another account.

Personally I wouldn’t do it only because I fear for people’s safety. This is slightly outside the scope, but it goes doubly so for women. At the challenge of a friend, I changed my profile picture and display name to a woman and even included exactly what I was doing in the bio. That was one of the worst weeks of my life. The weird part is that it’s people who don’t Follow you or even know you who start screaming at you out of nowhere. I’m not out there farming engagement, so I had Reply notifications on. What a mistake.

I know you didn't ask me, but I'll add my two cents. The answer is yes, however that solution is wrought with issues as well. Losing a level of anonymity jeopardizes and minimizes marginalized voices. Especially in countries with oppressive regimes.

The sad reality is social/modern internet have created so many problems for us but there are no great solutions to fixing it either.

Like even Nate Thompson I think it was bush he threw a fit on a harmless tweet by AY that wasn’t even dishonest.

I don’t blame Nate Thompson for accepting these contracts NHL GM’s keep offering him. I don’t doubt his effort or drive. He’s ultimately just not good at this point & should have been realistically out of the league years ago. So he skates like he has weights on but that’s an ability thing not an effort thing.

When fans criticize player’s drive or effort with nothing to back it up on I understand when player’s take that personal. So I always try not to be that fan that criticizes shit like that it’s usually just baseless & misevaluation of ability anyway.

Hot damn am I glad I dumped Twitter when I was in college.

The only reason I know that shit is because I remember somewhat known person on Twitter had a questionable post as well & 88 was at the end of their handle as well which led some to conclude that were indeed a secret Neo Nazi based off those things too. I think the 88 in reality for this person was just a number based off their birth year 1988.

He stepped in one today. That’s a stretch though. 88 (I guess it’s in code & can be transcribed in “Hell Hitler” by Neo Nazi groups) can be Nazi symbolism but there obviously many uses for it that most don’t associate with that.

How did Silver get tangled up in this? Try to come to Steph's aid?

He’s been defending DeAngelo today. So I guess some crazy segment of people pushing back concluded he was a Neo Nazi or sympathizer based off that & his handle ending in 88.

You can obviously make your point without going to the extreme.

I’m not sure they’re intertwined. They might be but I think it stems from this:

So to a group of Twitter people they see him making an excuse for DeAngelo and off they go with their ridiculous thought processes in that Silver must be a neo-nazi in order to make that statement.

I mean hes definitely making an excuse for DeAngelo and should have thought that through, but anyone calling him a Nazi is also a piece of shit

Last thing ill say on Silver, he may not be a Nazi but he's an idiot. He's been defending and championing everything Fletcher and management have done and passive-aggressively insults their detractors. Just another Authentic Moron.

Calling him a Nazi is so ludicrous it’s not even worth getting into. Even though he does represent the Nietzschean ideal of the Übermensch. But that’s just coincidence.

The internet is a strange place full of misguided individuals. Giving them a collective platform was always a dangerous and dumb idea. Back in the mid to late 1990s and early 2000s computing was relegated to nerds so it was a safe place to be.

That’s not really it. It started because had tweets back when TDA was kicked off the Rangers that were dug up. The excuse is that he’s now on the Flyers.

Whining about being ‘canceled’ also doesn’t fly when a $10m contract is involved.

In Europe its pretty common sense that 88 stands for Heil Hitler. Its one of the things you avoid using like SS or claims like: "Arbeit mach frei".

In Germany the history of our country is pretty much in our minds the whole life. Your not proud about the history and you want to avoid being in connection with this history at all costs.

In my generation (iam nearly 41 years old) you dont even have national proud. I never ever have had a german flag or would buy one. Or would draw my face in german colors.

The newer generations are a bit more loosely with this things.

I never learned to be proud about my country because of my socialisation and i know a lot of people who feel the same.

Just a small insight in german society ;D
