I tried to get excited about this tournament, but I just couldn't. I would have preferred the US win but have a hard time getting hyped up for players I mostly don't care about. Add to it games that I didn't find entertaining, and thankfully I'm not too torn up. I'm ready for NHL hockey again. I just find it hard to bond with a team of guys I don't care about that quickly and actually cheer or get upset.

Gonna have to agree with Chicago Made Punk on this one. Not to flog a dead horse but I'm all for trash talk, I do it as much as anyone, but somethings are out of bounds. And making fun of cancer, r.ape or suicide are WAY up that list.

That's a pretty solid roster, CMP. About the only thing I would change is removing Kreider and putting Callahan in his spot and fitting in Yandle somewhere, likely in place of Carlson.

These are probably the changes I would've made too. Callahan has been playing well in this tournament.

Attempts per minute favors Peters (or did, last time I looked. They appear to be roughly even now). I'm just saying, the whole "defensive shell" with Peters in net that got thrown around here as an excuse for his play is pretty much a myth. That's also not even discounting the injuries up front that he had to deal with.

The "defensive shell" came up from when the team couldn't score with Peters in net.

Which, when compared to Khudobin, is correct. We scored significantly more goals when Khudobin is in net than when Peters is in net.

It was a very blatant systematic change with all 5 players converging in the slot...I'm surprised that you are denying its existence when it was a bright as day style of play for all the 'Caniacs to see based on statistics.

Brace yourselves. Patriotism incoming

I don't understand what's up with the #wearewinter nonsense. Not sure if PM Harper was the first to use it, but his twitter was the first I saw (and considering his track record, he was probably told to write it, independent thought cohesion isn't something that comes easily to conservatives) but regardless, are Canadians actually unaware that we have substantially more medals than them? And that's counting the fact that Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White, Shani Davis, Lindsey Jacobellis, Bode Miller, etc haven't done anything. Even counting just golds is equally fruitless because we'd both have to tip our caps to Norway. So what is it? You aren't leading in anything so how are you "winter"? Unless, by "winter" you're actually trying to invoke the incredibly myopic view of most Canadians that hockey is all that matters. I'm sure the rest of your athletes who toil and suffer endlessly for literally years on end would be ecstatic to hear that, by in large, the vast majority of Canadians consider them second class to hockey players. For the record, I'm not bitter at all. disappointed? Yes, very much so, as any fan would be after watching their ladies gag a 2-0 lead in OT and their men lose 1-0 on a bad bounce, but through it all, I'm proud of my hockey teams, as I am the rest of our athletes. But whoever it was that started the #wearewinter thing, you're either ignorant, hubristic to the extreme, or more narrow minded than the Dutch speed skating coach. The best you can say is that at least you can keep the winter games somewhat respectable, even though you still lose to us. Wake me if Canada ever beats the USA in basketball (which, unlike hockey, was actually invented by a Canadian)

Oh so you don't have any idea how it started. Well, then, maybe it's best not to expound on such matters. Yes, that's a better idea.

Canada started the "Own The Podium" program a few years before the 2010 Olympics. Why? Because in past Winter Olympics, quite frankly we sucked. Like, 3 or 4 or 5 medals per Games. So the federal government decided to put a decent amount of money into the amateur sports that were notoriously underfunded, and came up with slogans that would get the country behind the athletes. So it's not even close to the assertion that "hockey is all that matter." In fact, it's the exact opposite. They recognized that hockey takes care of itself, and all of non-professional athletes needed some financial backing to keep them competitive.
This #wearewinter slogan is new this year I think, but I can't think of a reason to get bent out of shape about it....unless someone's team lost yesterday, and lost in the Iron Bowl, and he lives somewhere that he really doesn't like (as evidenced by his constant jabbing against said location). :)

Like NBC says....the more you know.

I don't even get this whole rah rah patriotism thing. just a bit of weirdness from me I guess, but I just find myself in general not really caring. There's a reason you guys saw me staying out of the way of the discussions in here... it didn't matter.

Bylsma ****ing over Faulk mattered, but it is what it is on that front... **** that guy.

But this "my country is better then yours" stuff? Nah, that's not my bag man. I have better things to worry about, like how effective this heating pad is going to be for keeping the Saison I'm making between 75-80F for the primary fermentation when I generally keep the house around 60 this time of year.

60? Dang. Hopefully it doesn't dip down too cold at night!

I get what you're saying though. I've always thought it odd that all of these guys that I'm always cheering against, all of huge sudden I'm cheering for. After a few games, though, I'm back into the red and white and cheering for Canada. It's only an every-four-years thing, so I figure it doesn't take TOO much out of me :)

... son of a... of course Arsenal would be playing at the same time as the Bronze Medal Game. So is Fulham, but they're not having the best of seasons right now.

As a Canes fan first and foremost and USA hockey fan much further down on the list, I'm not too broken up about Faulk not getting much playing time over there. We'd be in a world of hurt if something happened to Faulk like what happened with Martin (assuming he is out for a month like WTF posted) or Tavares.

Sekera was playing a lot of minutes, but being out early, he should get some rest to ensure he doesn't have any nagging injuries. Same goes for Semin, although he wasn't getting the minutes Sekera was. And even Ruutu hopefully can use this as a confidence boost.

I'd like to see team USA get a bronze, but honestly, my bigger hope is that Faulk and Ruutu make it through without injury and all the guys are ready to go for the stretch run here.

I'm surprised at the tone this thread has taken on during the Games. O well. Looking forward to things going back to normal.

They scored more goals, but their chances per minute were the same. If you're getting the same amount of chances, that's not indicative of a defensive shell. And beyond the numbers telling the story, Muller denied that anything changed with Peters in net.

Anyway, I haven't even flipped on this bronze medal game yet. Too disappointed, plus I just woke up. Judging by Twitter, Ruutu nailed Orpik with a huge hit? Too bad I missed that.

A team put together poorly and coached poorly in my opinion. No way orpik or Martin should have been on this team.

I thought Martin has played very well this season and played well in the Olympics as well. I really have no problem with him on the team.
