Yeah I read they had a tough time didn't know about the red.
Anyway let's hope for a good final with the good guys winning this one unlike the previous game :D

Oh we barely snuck by on penalties...even going down in the shootout...but I was really impressed with how the boys played down a man for 75 minutes. The swiss really had no room to counter into and our kids just kept tightening the noose with the ball.

And I'm cool with the good guys repeating their result from the group stages ;-)

U17 final going on.
France trying to win back to back after the Uber team from last year.
Not the same quality this year.
France was the better team in the second half but Germany just hit the bar on a great FK.
Fode Sylla finally coming on.

Why isn't the Lorient kid who scored a lot at this level even though he's younger on the team?

Way too small.

So Lambourde almost wins it at the 93rd and then Germany had a 2 on 1 breakaway at the 95th saved by Fode Sylla with an amazing defensive play.

Penalty shootout!

Last year's winners had Bitshiabu, Kumbedi, Tel, Zaire Emery (eligible for this tourney lol) and Doué... Crazy.

Germany and penalty wins ...

I've only followed this tournament starting the semifinals, Germany looked like the better team overall even though today their best players on paper didn't show up (Darvich looked hellbent on getting them to lose). France lacked a potent striker and some more quality and playmaking in midfield.

Very good penalty kicks for most these kids though, quite impressed.

France misses the winning PK and Germany takes the momentum to win the title.
Lambourde, Bouabre are the two French players that stand out for me in this competition.
I'll refrain From assessing Argney because I'll be biased but he has made impressive strides when it comes to using his feet. And he's still excellent on his line and in the air.

Those are the two who stuck out most from our two matches, and agreed about your boy. He was very impressive. I'm used to terrible keeping at this level but there were some great performances in goal at this tourney.

Despite the score was a fun game with multiple great chances from both teams and each team having periods of ascendancy.

Was funny to watch the kids who disappointed me most earlier in the tourney have arguably their strongest matches as Herrmann was a handful in a good way today...despite still making boneheaded decisions...Moerstedt did a very good job, and Jeltsch was very solid all around.

I think both of our teams were stronger last year, but I can see some regular NT starters coming out of each of these sides.

Frankly don't see it. Argney might, tough to say with goalies. He's IMO clearly better than most youth goalies we've had.
Lambourde and Bouabre have strong careers in front of them, but I don't see them getting NT spots given the depth in generations above them. Doue? Tel? Zaire Emery? Kumbedi? Atangana? Belocian?Sarr? Sick. And that's only the generation right before this one.

Never know how kids will develop from here. Being able to see it doesn't mean I think it's super likely.

By that same token, it'll be hard for Brunner, Darvich, & Ramsak to break past Musiala, Wirtz, Adeyemi, Moukoko, Weiper, Wanner, Bischof, etc. but it wouldn't shock me.

Ditto Kabar vs Netz, Rothe, Ullrich, & co. at LB.

Apparently the best player at the U20 WC was Fabricio Diaz of Uruguay.

Anyone watch?

It was Casadei, Diaz wasn't even considered top 3 (undeservedly). Diaz controlled the midfield in all 4 games I've watched him play, even against Casadei in the final. A pit bull defensively, he's got great creativity and long balls, and also seems like a born leader. Seemed a man against boys at times.

To celebrate his pending signing for Barca Vitor Roque scored his fifth league goal for AP. So 5 goals in 8 starts and he has the same goals and assists this season as he did last season but in just over half the minutes.

A prolific goalscorer at youth level, the 17-year-old was handed his senior international debut earlier this year against Trinidad & Tobago. Richards’ first start for his country came three days later against the same opposition and he completed 90 minutes against Qatar earlier this month. Richards has also been selected by Jamaica for the upcoming Gold Cup.

Born in Port Royal, the young forward has developed into a full international at the Phoenix Allstars Football Academy, which he joined at the age of 11.

He has experience of facing English opposition at youth level and at the 2022 Manning Cup, an Under-19 competition regarded as Jamaica’s most prestigious youth tournament, Richards, representing Kingston College, scored 31 goals and registered 19 assists.

That team was U20 WC.
That roster was something else.
Areola in goal (who somehow didn't live up to massive expectations), Umtiti, Zouma and Digne on defense (Sabaly was the other), Pogba, Kondogbia, Veretout, Lemina in midfield and Martial (also didn't live up) and Thauvin up front (while Yaya Sanogo's career went down the drain).
