So what happens if this team is actually bad?

"Tank Time" does have a nice ring to it for a thread name. It would be smart to trade a the vets not in the plans for the longterm future now. Play the young guys and get them some experience while getting a few extra losses in the process. Trade Goose now because he can get a good prospect and it would offer Jokipakka more pt. I think Horcoff and Fids are playing very well this season and have value in a trade as well and would definitely cost us games losing them. If Faksa is healthy then let's get him and Glennie up to get better as players while contributing to getting us a higher pick. Hemsky stays because he is not as bad as his stats are and I believe him and Spezza and a sniper could do good things as a future 2nd line still. Cole for a pick considering this draft is also very deep if I'm not mistaking? Of course, the Texas Stars would be SOL.

Don't remember exact quote but he said Lindback hasn't done anything to prove he should play instead of Kari.

Problem is with the exception of 2 or 3 games Kari hasn't looked good either. Calling out Lindback seems to me like a joke. There are a ton of players that need to be called out and he chooses a guy whose played in 3 or 4. Yeah okay, Lindback is terrible, he was before you signed him and still is, but to call out backups seems kinda chicken to me.
I probably should have waited to hear the context or the ? Before going off but whatever, I'm starting to think the team's biggest issue is Ruff.

He mentioned Kari not playing like himself too. Just to be fair.

I'm still wondering why we didn't sign Bryzgalov instead of Lindback. It was obvious in TB that Lindback is atrocious.

Sure, Bryz has baggage, but he's proven in the past that he is a capable NHL goalie and did pretty well with the Wild (I thought, anyway).

Yet our first round, excuse me, wasted first round draft pick of a goalie hasn't even been able to take over the starting position in the AHL under his tutelage, not to mention the string of disastrous back ups. Him and our PP coach have got to go, sooner rather then later. Campbell may be great one day, but not by being the backup yet another year at the pro level

Yeah, so we're told. By Daryl Reaugh.
I love Razor. Razor may love Valley. I have no doubt Valley is a nice guy. But Razor went a bit overboard a couple of years ago praising Valley and crediting Valley for turning Kari into a player he already was with Atlanta. It's not like Valley fixed a broken mule. Valley got a guy who was playing at a high level, got hurt a bunch, got traded, had surgery, and got better. Not exactly the stuff of legend.

Valley went and got Kari unhooked from Azeroth and Big Macs and got him re-engaged with hockey and life.

Kari's agent probably has as much to do with it. "Kari, your contract is up soon. The team that drafted you gave up on you because you couldn't stay healthy. You've now had this back surgery, but if you don't run your fat ass around the block a few times, your next contract might be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog doo out of Hong Kong. To put it more bluntly, imagine a $40 million pile of money. If you get in shape, 95% of that will be yours before taxes. If you don't, I'm going to dump you for a client worth my time."

The other day I was adamant about not placing the blame on Ruff or the staff for that matter but I'm considering changing that stance. This is, frankly, a mentally weak professional hockey team. They make one mistake, let it snowball, get ********, and then respond poorly. That's a coaching and leadership issue. I question whether Ruff actually knows how to coach in this western conference. The fact is, is that we're in a full aerodynamic stall and the time for recovery is coming to an end.

We had the same problem when Morrow, Ribeiro and company were the leaders and Crawford/Gully were coach.

We turned over like 95% of the organization. Did we just pick the wrong guys again?

New leadership from the top down. New players. Still giving away leads and struggling to close out games.

It's amazing what a bad defense and subpar goaltending will do to make a whole team look weak willed.

Difference between then and now is that we have more talent and skill on this team than on those ones. The expectation is higher and we're simply not firing from all cylinders. The glaring and persistent issue that's been around since after the '08 run is the defense.

Imagine a team with a very talented top line, a defense with only a few true NHLers and questionable goaltending. A team that gives up more goals to sloppy turnovers and poorly played breakaways than anything else. A team with a terrible powerplay. A team that can't manage to maintain possession. A team with awful zone exits. A team that's the bottom of their division.

The team I just described is the Oilers. We have become indistinguishable from the worst coached and managed team in the league.

If the team is bad, then we are going to draft really high in a stacked draft.

I would be delighted to get number 3/4 and draft Hanifin/Kylington! I've seen what Ekblad is doing over in Florida & Jones in Nashville.

The opportunity to pair either with Honka and let them both grow would be amazing to watch. Hanifin/Kylington - Honka for the next 10 years, yes please.
